Bear with me as I’m not very savvy with this sort of thing.

D is flying in on December 21. She booked her flight back in August and they’ve changed her flight 3 times since then. She cannot get to our house without a connection. No where she can fly from will get her to where we are or anywhere close. Originally she was flying out at 7:30 am arriving here at 12:30. Now her flight is at 6 am but still arriving at 12:30.

Now for my question lol! There is a flight on the airline she is flying on which would get her here at 10:30 instead of 12:30. She would have a 1 hr 38 min layover so time to make the flight and I looked and there are still seats available. Is there anyway we can get her on the earlier flight? Seems silly to sit in the airport when she could be here.

Just wondering if we can change her to an earlier flight since the airline keeps changing the time on their end. Probably not but wondering if it is worth a try.

-calling the airline and finding out if this can be done without a hefty fee;

-when checking for the flight at the airport, asking if she could switch flights;

-asking to fly standby (could be a problem if she has checked baggage)…

What is the connecting airport? For some, 1 hr and 38 min would not be enough to get from one terminal to another, especially if the flight is delayed.

Call the airline. They may allow you to make this change. But I do agree…depends on where the connection is. If she is switching from one terminal to the other, it can sometimes take a while…and if her first flight is delayed, she would miss the connection.

Wasn’t her original flight supposed to arrive at 12:30?

It is very possible that the 10:30 arrival flight will cost you an increased amount. If you are willing to pay the change fee, and increased cost of the ticket, my guess is the airline will be happy to take your money and accommodate you.

As an FYI, if you booked through Travelocity or Expedia…good luck!

She’s connecting through O’Hare. Sounds like it’s better to keep her original flight. They have a flight shown which arrives at 10:30 so I wondered if something could be done. But seeing as it will probably be the busiest travel day of the season I think we will allow plenty of time and keep the original (somewhat original lol) flight.

When she gets to O’Hare she should go to the gate for the earlier flight and ask the gate attendant if she could be put on that flight or on standby. Often if there are still empty seats once everyone has boarded they will let you on.

Just FYI. S had to pay a fee, which varied by airline when he wanted to take an earlier flight, even if there was space and he had confirmed seat on later flight. You and your D should be prepared for this. The amount varied between $25-100, if memory serves.

Just to add - I tried this on USAir over Thanksgiving and even though there were no seats left, they were happy to put me on standby just in case somebody missed the flight or didn’t show up or something.

Sadly I was #5 on the standby list and they only found space for 2 :(
