Christmas gift ideas for young men.

Thought I’d start this thread…as we have DD’s fiancé to get w gift for this Christmas. I would love some suggestions for something he might like. I’d ask my son, but my bet is he would be clueless. I will ask DD too…but some of my best ideas have come from folks here!

shirt and tie.
not kidding. our sons LOVE for us to buy their work clothes. LOL.

This guy is a paramedic…doesn’t wear a tie to work…has a paramedic uniform.

What does he like to do ?

He has a great hobbies…but I’m not thinking there is much I could get him that he doesn’t already have (diving, climbing, etc).

Footwear? It’s nice to have great footwear, if your D knows his size and taste. Shoes wear out so replacements are regularly needed. It’s very practical. My H has most of his “going out” shirts over the years from my folks, nice aloha shirts. Maybe a nice dress shirt for when he has a date night with your D.

Thumper, as we discussed in the Exercise thread, young (and not so young) men love no-stink Silverescent tees from Lululemon. I just gave 2 of them to a friend, and it was a big hit. Our SIL gets a traditional Cristmas gift of a Lulu tee… Instead of pajamas or socks.

Sweaters. It’s a joke around my house that I give DH and DS sweaters (and sometime DD, too). But I shop for nice cashmere sweaters, which are on sale in September/October, and hide them until Christmas. And I notice they all get worn during the cold grey days of January and February.

Good socks are always useful. Our S asked D to give him that this past year. He likes the men’s heat-tech brand which is thin but keeps your feet toasty warm.

Icebreakers makes some nice clothing that keeps folks warm and doesn’t stink, seriously. It makes washable wool and I LOVE their products. Wallets are a bit more personal and it’s sometimes hard to gauge or guess the preferences of others (my H & S are REALLY picky about their wallets).

Good socks are expensive and make great and useful gifts.

What about tools? Does he fix things around the house. I have a pink color set of tools that I still use after so many years.even my husband mentioned it was my tools box. I think I bought mine from Costco so it was not expensive. A year subscription to his favorite hobby, whatever that is. How about cookbooks, when I go to Costco I’m only allowing myself to browse the cookbook section and not buying. But if I have somebody in mind, I definitely get one.

Tools are a bit personal and if he’s anything like my hubby, they can be VERY picky about their tools. They want only the very specific things they want, in the brand, size, etc. that they have in mind. I think the right socks make a terrific gift–something folks feel silly splurging on for themselves but really appreciate GOOD socks.

I guess it depends on the person. I think it’s silly to give socks same as underwear. But everybody has their opinion. Technically I would think a gift card is best.

Socks are not in the same category as undies. Socks are technical gear! Pages of cyclists’ and runners’ forums are devoted to discussion of socks.

Tickets to something. I’ll be sexist and say tickets to a game of his favorite sports team. But a ticket to a show ( Broadway- my S would love) or concert.

Is he interested in learning about something new. D’s bf was interested in learning about whiskey. We bought him 5 different brands in small bottles, a few whiskey glasses and a book. He loved trying the different kinds and reading about them.

If he’s into hiking, good quality wool socks are ALWAYS appreciated. Gift certificate to the local craft beer places. If he’s outdoorsy, a jetboil camping stove. Concert tickets. A nice quality flannel shirt.

What area does he live in? What’s his age and the budget?

As someone who doesn’t love Christmas and especially Christmas shopping, these threads are freaking me out that we are even THINKING about Christmas gifts now!!!

If he’s outdoorsy, consider this truly amazing gadget: a super light inflatable solar mini-lantern. Friends brought out a couple during an evening bbq. It was a huge hit. I’m giving a bunch of them as Christmas stocking gifts. (Available at Amazon.)

I got my outdoorsy nephews ultralight portable hammocks and suspension systems from REI. They weigh very little and can be taken hiking or camping and can be set up in minutes. My nephews seemed to like them.

Ooh - cool idea, @nottelling. Something I will keep in mind for my own outdoorsy son.
