On the fridge…my son’s school has them in the room already. It is a fridge/microwave combo.

My kids both wore uniforms to school, so I started getting them some college clothes.

Oh, and I’m getting him board games.

Extra long twin sheets for dorm room, desk lamp, case for personals to bathroom, other dorm supplies…suitcase, etc

lmkh70–not all dorm beds are XL twin though. It’s really hard to start buying that stuff until you know exactly where they are going to college.

Nothing special for college here either. Just things that were right for her then.

I just got these as stocking stuffers:
[ISOTONER smarTouch Gloves | Fit to Connect Touchscreen Gloves](http://www.smartouchgloves.com/)
For those kids who love to text.

oldfort–I just bought some of those for myself. They aren’t very good. We have some from Old Navy that are much better. The area under the touch pad doesn’t have any lining in them and the touch pad part is really small so if you don’t get the glove just so on your finger it doesn’t work. I’m very disappointed in these.

Oh great! After I bought 4 pairs of already. We should have a product review thread on CC.

My D2 (HS senior) goes through earbuds in a hurry. So definitely will have some of those in her stocking. Really no other plans to give any college related presents, except maybe a bookstore gift certificate that can carry over to buying textbooks if she doesn’t use it for something else first. She is finding the college search stressful enough.

CVS has inexpensive earbuds starting Thursday with extra bucks back so they end up “free”

another touchscreen glove
[Agloves Natural - Agloves](http://www.agloves.com/agloves-natural/)
Got them for D last year…she asked for them again…(lost them)

MY S is getting a winter coat (since he doesn’t own one). He can wear it to auditions up north in Feb and March. Otherwise, he’s just getting computer games. None of my kids have been too jazzed about getting “college stuff” as gifts.

Any ideas for a young man who has just started professional school in a new, large city? He doesn’t have a car, rides a bike and seems to embrace city living. Not sure why, but I’m at a loss.

rutgersmamma, Warm gloves/scarf/jacket?

good first aid kit
Noise cancelling headphones/earbuds (huge hit w/ my son)
tablet with keyboard
smartphone

There is a list on here about “what to pack for college”, there is also a thread about ideas for gifts for college students. Take a look at those

For a lot of things, at least for the colleges on my DS’s list, it really depends on the college. For two he is applying to, everyone rides a bike everywhere, for 2 others, no one rides a bike (on a hill so not convenient). For the microfridge, D1’s dorm room came with one, and for S2 first year they rented one and the second year the roommate had one. If they are traveling a long distance to college sometimes it is more convenient to get bedding, etc… closer to the college, rather than having to haul it all there. Target, BBB, etc… have ways you can order on line and then pick it up near the college. I do like the idea of the smartphone, noise cancelling headphones, tool kit and jacket.

I guess these days a carton of smokes and a case of beer is no longer appropriate.

I would stay away from college stuff for his last pre-college Christmas. That all comes soon enough. If you are planning a graduation party, a lot of this stuff will come then.

Lots of safety stuff available for bicyclists- a gift card to a local bike shop would be appreciated- also maybe zipcar membership for those days when the bike isnt a good idea?

Concert posters?

How about a book of restaurants, activities of the city complete with a good map? I gave my daughter a book about secret Chicago. I know she has used it.

I got the Isotoner gloves for my son last year after a bunch of folks RAVED about them on this forum. He loves these gloves!
