Chuckle of the Day - Michelle Obama/Jimmy Fallon do "Mom Dancing"

^^My husband’s cousins are Mormon, and their daughter is getting close to professional level of ballet. So yeah, they dance.

Sorry–must have been thinking about FLDS or another more conservative denomination.

U of Utah has one of the best college ballet programs in the country…should have thought of that too. (Not that all the students there are Mormon, but surely many are.)

It depends on what you mean by “dancing.” Ballet is one thing. Grinding is another. The Mormon rules:

[For the Strength of Youth: Fulfilling Our Duty to God Music and Dancing](http://www.lds.org/manual/for-the-strength-of-youth-fulfilling-our-duty-to-god/music-and-dancing?lang=eng)

Based on a conversation with the mom of a BYU student, a lot of the dances there are things like country line dancing.

And in case anyone isn’t familiar with the original “Evolution of Dance” video that inspired this skit, here ya go:

<a href=“Evolution of Dance - YouTube”>Evolution of Dance - YouTube;

Mormons are into ballroom dancing big time. One of the strongest college ballroom dance teams is at Brigham Young U. I think Julianne and Derek Hough from DWTS are Mormons.

I can’t stand their politics, but she is clearly a very athletic, attractive woman and a good dancer.

As an ex-teenage girl I would have died a thousand deaths if my Mom ever danced in public - even if she WAS good at it :-).

I think that has changed over time. Maybe moms are just cooler than they used to be. I danced at my D’s 16th birthday party and my D took lots of pictures and danced with me. We went to a karaoke party last night and danced. I doubt the Obama girls are embarrassed.

I have danced with my mom often since I was a young teen. My mom is generally one of those life-of-the-party people who still dances in bars in her 50s (I got over any embarrassment long ago). She’s the one who encourages me to get up and dance with her at weddings and parties and I usually oblige.

I think it’s a fun little video and a great message. Very funny and if it encourages some people to get up and move, all the better!
