"Ciao...it's Pope Francis" Has anyone famous ever called you?

*Michele Ferri is the brother of 51-year-old Andrea, a petrol station manager who was allegedly gunned down by two men including one young employee he treated like a son.
The death shocked the north-eastern town of Pesaro.
Michele Ferri wrote a letter to the Pope telling him of his inability to forgive the killers and was shocked when he picked up the telephone on Wednesday evening to hear: “Ciao Michele, it’s Pope Francis.”

At first Mr Ferri thought it was a joke but said he was overcome with emotion when he realised it was really Francis on the line from the*Vatican.
“He told me he cried when he read the letter I wrote to him,” Mr Ferri said.
The Pope also asked to speak to Mr Ferri’s mother to express his personal sympathy.

After reading this story, I thought it would be interesting if people posted if anyone famous has ever called them.

Years ago, I received a surprise phone call from Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes. More recently, I received a phone call from a Hollywood producer who wanted me to help change child’s college schedule at Bama - the parent had secretly registered child in a class that child didn’t want (even famous folks are helicopter parents…lol…for privacy sake of child, I won’t name.)

For a long time we had a message on our answering machine from our local US Representative for me. We tried to keep it as long as we could, but the answering machine died and had to be replaced :(

OK, spill, m2ck! Why did Andy Rooney call you?

I’ve gotten calls from Rachel of Cardholder Services. I think everyone knows who she is. ;)

^ LOL thanks VH, that made me very happy!

For years I archived a lengthy rather threatening voice mail from the right hand man of a notorius international arms trafficker. They wanted to buy some property my client was selling and my client wouldn’t sell to them. I thought that maybe the FBI might be interested some day. The actual guy on the phone wasn’t very famous, but his boss was.

That’s about it for me.

VerryHappy: That was hilarious.

I get 2-3 calls a day from the ‘help I’ve fallen and I can’t get up’ people. They are so very eager to install my ‘free’ system. I feel the love !

I’ve gotten to ovals from many famous folks, mostly during election time. :)

My wife received a call from the Surgeon General once.

No calls, but both H and I have met or spoken to many famous people in our prior work as writers and now H with local government. His top 3-Buck O’ Neil, Walter Mosley, and John Lewis. My top three would be Antwone Fisher, Ben Vareen, and Harry Belafonte (my parents were friends with him).

No phone call for me, but we are friends of the friends of MN state congressmen. He regularly attends annual Halloween party my friend has at her house (dressed as a doctor - year after year). We are on opposite political spectrum and several years ago I was puzzled by thought process behind one legislation for which he voted. So I asked him about it at the party. His reply was that they did it for the children.

P.S. I know it is not really kosher to talk politics at the parties, but it is OK in our social circle. I actually have known him for almost 20 years, when he was just starting on political area and while our families were never friends, we are good acquaintances, and I frequently run into him and his wife at various parties. It’s all good, he is still speaking to me (and no, I don’t live in his district).

OK, spill, m2ck! Why did Andy Rooney call you?

I had written him a letter complaining about a nasty remark he had made on the show about stay at home moms. Several days later, I was shocked when my phone rang and there he was. He apologized and told me that he had also rec’d a tongue lashing from female relatives. He was very nice.

Margaret Carlson called me once as well, but I can’t remember the reason. She was very sweet.

Peter Jennings called me to have him on his show…and I was. That was pretty cool. That phone call wasn’t a surprise, though…I knew it was coming.

Michelle Obama. Recording. We used to get Christmas cards from Jimmy and Rosalyn. I put them on display with the rest.
