<p>Cindy McCain in my book is an incredible woman…it takes a lot for any wife to go to her husband and say before this becomes public, you need to know I have a drug addiction. It takes even more strength to do it when your husband is in the political field. I don’t care how much money she has or doesn’t have. I also put the she had an affair with him in the same file as Obama being the Manchurian Candidate, especially since McCain’s wife has come out many yrs ago and stated she was not the cause of the divorce, and if she was do you think his adopted children (married his 1st wife and adopted her kids) are on the campaign trail with him.</p>
<p>I knew she was involved with this organization a long time ago, because I remember reading/hearing that they adopted a little girl with facial deformities, and that became an issue in 00…remember they wouldn’t discuss the child and it was used against him in SC primary!</p>
<p>Thanks for posting that Marite. My cousin sent me something about it as he is retired Navy, and the surgeries being done on this trip are, I believe, being conducted on a Navy hospital ship (my cousin keeps up with all things Navy).</p>
<p>Operation Smile does work all over the world, I think. A woman I know here is married to a plastic surgeon who works for Operation Smile in the summers. He usually spends 2 weeks in South and/or Central America fixing cleft palates, and his wife and kids go with him and do volunteer work at the hospitals he goes to, while he does the surgeries. Operation Smile sends a team that also includes people like speech therapists and psychologists, in addition to doctors and nurses. Some local speech therapists have made these summer trips as well. It is a very nice charity organization.</p>

<p>I saw an interview with Cindy on one of the cable shows last night. It is the first time I saw her interviewed. I’ve heard her described as a “Barbie doll,” or “Stepford wife.” She came across as <em>nothing</em> like those descriptions, but as quite a strong lady who is not at all afraid to voice her opinion (when asked).</p>

<p>Operation Smile is a heartwarming charity. We have two surgeon friends, who, like mercymom’s friend, spend time each year travelling to different countries performing this surgery. If I’m not mistaken, Cindy McCain is Chairman of the Board of Operation Smile.</p>
