Cindy McCain

Has anyone seen Cindy McCain give a speech or actually do anything? Michelle Obama has gotten a lot of press and discussion here on CC…
The only times I’ve seen Mrs. McCain, she looks frighteningly like a Stepford Wife. There was a pic of them on CNN.com where she was wearing a particularly evil looking smile…

note: this wouldn’t AT ALL affect my voting preferences. Just a snarky comment. I would like to know, however, if she does anything except stand and look presidential-wife-ish.

I think she and McCain have seven children all told:
[ul]
[]His: One biological w/ ex wife; two of his ex’s children whom he adopted
[]Theirs: Three biological, one adopted
[/ul]

According to the font of all knowledge/url her stroke was “near fatal,” and she’s also had a bout with prescription drugs.

Of the three candidates with the most delegates thus far, there are diverse people in the roles of “First Spouse Presumptive.” While that has very, very little to do with how I would vote, I enjoy thinking about the different paths each might take.

She is also very involved with charity work, including helping kids in third world countries with cleft lips.

fundingfather - Yeah - looking at my summary - yeesh - not fair at all.

I had paid no attention to her other than to think she’s had a whole lot of Botox…but then she made that little speech about always loving America and her manner made me instantly hate her.

Duke,
I’m not sure what your point is. I wasn’t commenting on your post. I was adding what I knew about Cindy McCain in response to the OP.

Just that there’s a lot more to her - or anyone - than the snippet I posted. Re-reading mine made it sound like I was boiling it down to two lines so I was glad you added her charitable work.

^I agree there is a lot more to her. She’s to be admired for the philanthropic work. I’ve not paid all that much attention to her so far, other than reading a basic bio.

However, I didn’t like the comment she made after what Mrs Obama said. I thought it was opportunistic, a bit mean spirited, a cheap shot. (I myself had no problem with Mrs Obama’s remark, I took it to mean that she’s proud of the involvement America is presently showing in the primaries, as contrasted to the past years.)
I hate how stuff is taken out of context, and people resorting to this sort of gratuitous snideness.
That said, I’m still open to see how things develop.

In 1988, Cindy McCain founded the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT), a non-profit organization that organized trips for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel to provide emergency medical care to disaster-struck or war-torn third-world areas such as Micronesia, Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq, Nicaragua, India, Bangladesh and El Salvador. She led 55 of these missions over the next seven years; AVMT also supplied treatment to poor sick children around the world.

While at Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1991 — as part of AVMT’s assistance team following the 1991 Bangladesh cyclone[19] — she met two infant girls she decided needed to be brought to the United States for medical treatment. She decided to adopt one of the girls (her husband readily agreeing), later named Bridget (who became the McCains’ fourth child together), and helped coordinate the adoption of the other little girl, named Mickey, for Wes Gullett, a family friend. In 1993, Cindy McCain and the AVMT were honored with an award from Food for the Hungry.

…

She became actively involved with Operation Smile in 2001, taking parts in trips with it to Morocco, Vietnam, and India. She was honored by the organization in 2005, and sits on its board of directors. She joined the board of directors of CARE in 2005. She is on the board of the HALO Trust, and has visited operations to remove landmines in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, and Angola.

You mean the girl from the baseless NYT article? The article that was pure speculation? While we’re at it why don’t we mention Obamas boyfriend, Larry Sinclair (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xTz7nojEC80)

On the one hand it is a relief to see someone criticized other than HRC in order to lift up (and defend) the Obama’s, but IMHO, the remarks are unduly snide about Cindy McCain. One is reminded about the old axiom “it is not enough that I am a success, but all my friends must be failures” (?)…same principle of overzealousness seems to be applying here. There is something wrong with any candidacy which inspires its supporters to be so mean about everyone else. This reminds me of a gossip column. “I heard…”

It’s just that she’s stood behind her husband looking pretty for so long, and when she finally does talk, it’s to say something snarky. Laura Bush wouldn’t have done that.

Kabaloney You wrote: I don’t know about yours, but my husband is very taken with her. The ultimate male fantasy - very tall, striking, head turning, rich BLOND. What more could they want?

You left out: owns a brewery.

Really the Aussie Dream walking.

AVMT (the children’s health charity she founded) did not survive her stealing drugs for her own use in the 90’s, nor the wrongful termination lawsuit filed by the accountant who claimed she asked him to cover it up and, when he went to the DFA, she fired him. She claimed she became addicted to painkillers during the stress of the Keating 5 investigation, which entangled her husband, because she could not find the receipts for the vacations she, John McCain and their children had taken at Mr. Keating’s instigation. McCain eventually repaid Keating 13,000+ for the trips, but not until after the investigation. Of the 5 Senators implicated in the Keating S&L scandal only one is still in the Senate…John McCain.

The story in the Times isn’t about sex, it’s about McCain’s pattern of unseemly closeness to lobbyists, one of whom happened to be a blonde gal who bears a striking resemblance to Mrs. McCain the 2nd. By the by, Mrs. Cindy McCain was John McCain’s ‘female companion’ while he was married to Mrs. Carol McCain. So much for Mrs. Cindy McCain’s comment today: “More importantly, my children and I not only trust my husband, but know that he would never do anything to not only disappoint our family, but disappoint the people of America. He’s a man of great character…”

Gee Novelisto, I take it that you are not part of the amen choir when messiah obama speaks about stopping the divisive politics? Or are you the part of the choir that says only the other side should stop.

With respect to McCain and Keating, here is what Bob Bennet who was the Democrat special counsel for the investigation wrote about it:

"The story in the Times isn’t about sex, it’s about McCain’s pattern of unseemly closeness to lobbyists, one of whom happened to be a blonde gal who bears a striking resemblance to Mrs. McCain the 2nd. "

That may be true, but MSNBC used the word “romantic” repeatedly.

She has a very “Barbie” look to her. I saw her walking up stairs and her skirt was so tight she couldn’t walk up a full step at a time. She needs to let her hair down, literally.

I had paid no attention to her until seeing this thread. While I hope we don’t get stuck with her husband as president, the fact that she chose to do the following after college could be a benefit of her being First Lady: " Declining a role in the family business she then began a special education teaching career working with children with disabilities at Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona." (Wikipedia)

If the drug part is true, I’m sorry that it was hushed up because she could have done for prescription and other drug addiction what Betty Ford (who I think she physically resembles) did for alcoholism.

“If the drug part is true, I’m sorry that it was hushed up because she could have done for prescription and other drug addiction what Betty Ford (who I think she physically resembles) did for alcoholism.”

But it wasn’t hushed up, it was (and is) very well known.

My husband also thinks Cindy McCain is a beautiful woman. She has accomplished a lot of good in the world and I don’t hold it against her for not liking politics.

If we were casting a movie for President and First Lady Mitt Romney and Cindy McCain would win LOL
