Citing professors and alumni on essays

Is it a good idea mentioning in my essays why my chosen school is fundamental for my future plans, citing the names of professors whose work I am familiarized with? Also, as an international student, I am inspired by politicians and businessmen from my country who studied abroad. Should I mention them in the case I am interested in going to their Alma Maters and later coming back home, as they did?

Sure. Go for it. Just don’t do it in your personal statement.
