Citizen Science Trips

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of a way an adult can go and help out with a scientific expedition or research for a couple of weeks. I am going to be closing a very long (multiyear) estate process soon. To celebrate, I decided to spend some of the estate proceeds on a trip. The rest of the proceeds are going to tuition, of course. :)

I know about Earthwatch, and have been studying their expeditions. Some look interesting, but I think I might like something different. Maybe something related to astronomy or physics.

Does anyone know about anything like this? I tried searching for “Citizen Science Trips” and things like that. I can find a lot of interesting citizen science projects I can do from home or in my area, but nothing where you go to the project site.

This is the closest I can think of without enrolling in a college course and assisting instructor with summer research.

The astronomy projects I found just needed volunteers to do data entry.

Why not start with one of the local programs/organizations, and ask for their advice on a field-school or out-of-town program? If you don’t get lucky there, maybe here: http://smithsonianassociates.org/

You probably have seen this?

Many archaeological digs rely on citizen volunteers to help out.

Someone from my book group did that coureur.
The dig was run by someone who was an advisor to the Jurassic park movie?
Anyway it was a pretty successful dig, and she found the whole tibia of maiasaura?
Kind of funny she would go on a dig, she is far from the camping type.
I mean really far.
But she said happily that there was shopping. Anticipating I guess that amateurs wouldn’t have the right gear, a mobile shop had set up camp.

^^Based on those finds, I’d say your friend did a paleontological dig more than an archaeological one.

Of course. :o
