These folks in Missouri are headed down the path of ruin, to go along with the town’s already established reputation for corruption and iniquity. They need to take a lesson from the City of Yonkers, NY, which steadfastly refused to follow court orders to correct years of intentional racial discrimination by the city government. The courts hammered Yonkers for its intransigence in the 1990s and the effects are still felt to this day.
Ferguson’s city leaders deserve the same treatment. The shame is that it will adversely impact citizens who had nothing to do with the corrupt leaders or purposeful racial oppression.
I agree. I think the courts should hit Ferguson with the same hammer as Yonkers. Only this time, start the fine at 10 dollars, and make it double everyday. It’s disgusting to see this kind of thing in this day and age.
I read an article saying that they were primarily concerned with the cost of complying with the negotiated settlement. Unfortunately I suspect fighting the lawsuit will cost just as much and probably more than just complying in the first place.
I was impressed that Justice filed the lawsuit the day after the city council vote. They must have seen this coming and started prepping the lawsuit months ago.
