<p>Without a PE, if you can convince the hiring manager that you’re qualified to perform the tasks in the job description then you could be hired.</p>
<p>If the position requires the use of a PE license, then it depends. In some states, a PE license is specific to a field. If this is the case in your state, you will need to check with the state licensing board to determine how you can obtain an endorsement in another area (or if such an endorsement is even needed). In other states, PE’s are licensed generically and are told to only perform work in areas with which they feel they are competent to act as an expert. In such a case, it would depend whether or not you consider yourself to be competent. Either way, when completing the ethics or legal portion of the PE licensing requirement for your state, you will come across the restrictions for use of a license.</p>
