Civics/Political Science Programs

Hi all! I’m a mentor for students who are interested in civics/political science programs. However, I’m always trying to find more opportunities for them to apply for!

Here’s what I currently know of:

*Boys and Girls State/Nation
*Henry Clay Center High School Student Congress
*Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference
*United States Senate Youth Program
*Congressional Page Program
*(If in or around Nebraska) Unicameral Youth Legislature

The theme around these programs is that they’re limited in time (besides the Congressional Page program) and are free/have full-ride scholarships available.

Are there any others I should know about that fit the above?

Thanks!

If you’re grouping journalism programs in this category (which makes sense), you could include the Washington Journalism and Media Conference (https://wjmc.gmu.edu/), which devotes a lot of attention to civics and civil liberties as relevant to the press, and includes time spent at the capitol (and meetings with students’ congressional reps for those who manage to get appointments). Most students are nominated by their school media outlets, but it’s also possible to apply.
