Civil Engineer to Biomedical Tech.

Hello to all.
I have been a civil engineer EIT focused in Land Development for nearly 4 years and with the current state of the economy, Land Development has come to a stand still especially in Florida. Also after three years into my Civil Eng career, sitting in a cublic, doing Auto Cad design, permitting designs, rarely getting to leave the office to go to a site and playing fantasy sports with my equally frustrated co-worker I realised this kinda blows.

So when i got laid off earlier this year after surviving 7 rounds of lay offs!! (stressful) I figured at 32 i am still young enough to change my career path and this time pursue something I am passionate about.
So my question is I am thinking about going to a Community College to get a A.S. degree as a Bio medical Engineering Tech or Electrical Engineering Tech (2 year program) work get experience in the electrical field and later on getting into renewable energy Solar Energy ( My real passion). Knowing myself i would eventually get my Bachelors in Biomed. or Electrical but I was wondering if this course of action makes sense?

Or should i look for a grad school that has a renewable energy program?

I really do not want to end up back in a cubical behind a computer.

If you already have an engineering degree, even if in a different field, many colleges will accept you into their non-thesis MS Engineering program. A non-thesis MS program can usually be completed faster than an AS degree, grants a higher degree, and usually makes you more marketable (at least marketable for a higher salary).

You might want to look into that before considering an AS program.

I would agree with G.P. You DO NOT need to pursue the same masters degree as your bachelors. It can be completely different. In your case, engineering concepts will carry over, so you will have the tools to work with. You will only need to look at using your concepts differently.
