I would appreciate if anyone could provide some guidance on San Jose State University Civil Engineering program in terms on department and university ranking and most importantly career prospects after Graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from San Jose State University (SJSU).
Also how does SJSU’s Civil Engineering program and Career prospects compare with Oregon State University?
College Scorecard lists the following median earnings for recent bachelor’s degree graduates who used federal financial aid as students:
School |
Major |
Median earnings |
Oregon State |
Civil engineering |
$89,866 |
San Jose State |
Civil engineering |
$106,415 |

Both have ABET accreditation. So that’s good.
I don’t see career data for either. Email the departments and ask - average salaries, percent employed and specific titles.
I’m sure both are fine given the schools and ABET certification.
SJSU posts this but not helpful. But I’d be wary of govt data bcuz working in the Bay Area needs to pay more than Oregon and many/most jobs may be regional.
Thank you very much for sharing the salary data
Thank you and we will ask the departments for the career data. There is an open house where can talk to the department at SJSU. I am wondering about on campus recruiting and job prospects at SJSU versus OSU.
Ask when you’re there. Call OSU and ask. The world today is about the internet though. More and more are finding their own. But ask for #s. Both will also have handshake or similar and you’ll have indeed/linkedin.
Few find for you today. You find for you. They can assist with counsel and guidance.
I’m sure both will be good. That both are ABET accredited says a lot.
Also ask both to speak with Senior student ambassadors. Ask about internships and how they found. Ask for names of recent alums to call too.
Good luck.
I just saw your attachment and it has got good data of prospective employers. Thanks again! Will call OSU and ask for similar data. I think for Handshake you have to be an enrolled student and it connects employers and students.
Ask the departments specifically. You don’t know why they came.
You want the where company wise, location wise, and $ wise kids end up. Note the Bay Area will always pay more. And cost a lot more to live.
Ask to speak to kids because you want the real skinny of where you’ll be four years, day after day.
I’d advise against basing this on any info you’ve seen above.

Here’s some information about MECOP, a co-op program available to engineering students at Oregon State. It’s a structured program in which engineering students participate in two six-month internships over the course of their degree. https://www.mecopinc.org
