civil engineering california

Where’s the opportunity of civil engineering in california? I think I’m interested in pursueing industrial steel projects like buildings and bridges but I feel like there isn’t much of that in California…

Why would you think that?

well I heard that all the big steel projects are in the midwest because they don’t have to worry about earthquakes. So I figured that california wouldn’t have more midrise concrete buildings

Whether a building is made of steel or concrete usually isn’t dictated by the risk of earthquakes. No matter what the material, you have to design a building to withstand the appropriate earthquake loads, as dictated by the local building codes. Residential buildings tend to be made of concrete, while commercial/others are usually steel-framed structures.
