Claremont Grad Univ. Debt Downgraded to Near 'Junk-Bond' Status

This stand-alone graduate university of 1,900 students within the Claremont Consortium had its bond rating downgraded two steps in November 2017 by Moody’s Investors Service to Baa3 (with a negative outlook) from its previous Baa1. This places Claremont Graduate University one step above Ba, which is Moody’s highest junk-bond rating.

Moody’s cited enrollment challenges that have “weakened operating performance,” stating that this “will lead to deterioration of spendable cash and investments and thinning liquidity.”
