Claremont Vs. U. Rochester. Vs. Colgate

Hello all,

Recently I have been struggling with this decision. I want to major in international business and international relations. Here is a little pro-con for each college. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated!

University of Rochester
Pros
–Full Ride
–Open Curriculum
– Renaissance Scholar

Cons
–Food
–Outside City

Colgate University
Pros
–Great financial aid
–Benton Scholar
–Somewhat close to NYC/Boston

Cons
–More strict curriculum

Claremont Mckenna
Pros
–Great weather
–Great reputable LAC
–Near big city

Cons
–No undergrad business major
–Not very well known in the East Coast

I’d probably pick between the two at lower cost, esp since your third doesn’t have the undergrad business major you are looking for. You’ll have to decide which of the pros/cons means more to you. That’s not something others can really answer. We could answer for “us,” but not necessarily for “you.”

Claremont has financial economics and economics-accounting as majors, whereas Colgate and UR have nothing even close to a business major.

How does OP feel about the Colgate’s rural location and its jock and frat culture? It’s the nation’s smallest NCAA D1 school.

@rhg3rd University of Rochester does have an undergraduate business I believe. Would you pick University of Rochester with a full ride over CMC?

[Undergraduate Majors : Arts, Sciences and Engineering](Search Majors & Minors : Undergraduate Studies : Arts, Sciences & Engineering : University of Rochester)

Sorry, I missed the economics and business strategies major but knew there was Simon for MBA at UR.

How much money difference between CMC and UR? How do your schools stack up in terms of study abroad or special terms for IR?

I would choose based on cost and where you want to work (east coast vs. west coast)

There is no way I would pass up a full ride to Rochester.

CMC is among the nation’s most selective schools and has great weather, but unless cost is not a factor a free ride from a good school is hard to turn down.
