No, the stipend is $750 and is completely separate. Your mentor won’t give you the money, and probably not the books, either. They’ll probably keep the rest for future expenses. My lab decided to stock up on expensive chemicals with the leftovers.

Actually, I’m not completely sure of the amount. I have reason to believe it’s $800, but I’m not absolutely positive.

Everything is free but transportation. You get a meal card with $300 on it, but $300 definitely won’t be enough. They always refill it if you ask. One kid got it refilled around 3 times, and Ms. Durham was pretty ****ed. The food can be very good or mediocre, depending on the day and where you go. The Union has actual fast food restaurants; the Market in the dorm you’ll be living in has a buffet which is ok but not great; Sam’s Place has some pretty good food and some not-so-good food, which you’ll learn by trial and error. (Hint: Go for the Asian food. They put way too much sauce on, but you can ask for less.)

At the end, some of us had more than $100 left over, so we just bought tons of candy and gave it to our labs and stuff.

Oh, one thing I forgot: There are weekly seminars where professors talk about their research. They’re usually pretty interesting.

No, push your case! It’s an amazing research program. It can open so many doors for you! Several of us got major award like Intel/Siemens semifinalist with our research.

how important do you think teacher recs are? and since I only had one bio/anatomyteacher I could only get the one rec from her and the other two are from math teachers that I know pretty well. Is that alright? I want to try for the biological and idk how much math teacher recs would help. I would have asked my chem teacher but he retired so yeah…

i would like to push my case but i just don’t know what the research for the program entails in the humanities! if someone could tell me what they accomplished in history or english rsearch areas, that could convince me!

I can guarantee you that you will enjoy your research if you’re genuinely interested in Clark Scholars. You’ll basically just be another member of the research group, and you’ll do everything they do. If you don’t like Clark Scholars research, you probably won’t like other research either. When you ask how the research is in humanities, you have to realize that it’s basically just like normal academic research in humanities! You do the same thing normal researchers in those fields do - reading, lit searches, historical or background research, etc. (maybe even statistics for history). If you like those techniques, you’ll probably enjoy Clark Scholars. (Have you read any critical papers in English or history lately? That’s the kind of thing I’m talking about.)

If you have any specific questions about research experiences, I may be able to answer them, but you can’t just say “What’s the research like?” and expect a comprehensive answer. The fact that no Clark Scholar this year was in those fields by no means indicated that Clark Scholars is a science-centered program.

If you can track down the history Clark Scholar from last year, you might be able to ask him. Otherwise, there’s not much I can do.

Your teachers probably don’t have to seal them, but you should seal them yourself, I think.

Hey, I got a few questions. I am participating in an international theoretical physics lab that takes place in Israel, and I will start working in a genomics lab at Stowers institute. Will these give a serious advantage in the admission process?
Also, I got 3rd at nationals in math in 8th grade( it was in the 8-9th grades category) when I was attending high school in Israel(in Israel high school starts in 7th grade), should I include that or is it not relevant because it happened before 9th grade?
Last question: should I talk about moving from Israel to the US after 8th grade(I came alone without my parents) ?

I have been looking at this program, but feel like I seriously have absolutely no shot at getting in. I mean I have a 3.9 UW GPA with the hardest schedule all through high school in my grade but we don’t rank at all. My SAT score in January was 1920, PSAT score was lower than that. I’m going to try the ACT out in April, just think it could suit me better. I showed signifiant improvement over the PSAT score, but they won’t care or know that I didn’t need to study to raise it.

I have invented like 30+ things that are high in new technology (quite ground-breaking honestly) and I still need to conduct research on some ideas. I am applying for patents and have single-handidly carried my school’s MIT InvtenTeams effort this year. I have regional Science Olympiad awards, nothing at states yet. The app is due April 1st right? Perhps I can add a few more regional awards

Should I bother applying? I realize that the acceptance rate is 5-10%, so should I invest my time into it?

The application is due on March 5.
Don’t hesistate; if you don’t apply your chance would be 0 instead of 5-10% (it’s my philosophy but I find it useful).

^Thats what I was thinking as well. Thanks I guess I mixed-up the due date with another program lol. If I’m interested in sciences, I know that I need a science rec. But I have had 1 science teacher for last 3 science courses, so would it be weird if I asked like a history or english teacher for 1 rec? I’m assuming that I should ask my math teacher for one (still considering which math teach I should use. Different one from this year in comparison to alst year).

ah so i have a slight problem… i can’t find my sat scores anywhere in my house. does my school have an official score report sent to them that i can make copies off of, or should i order a copy? if the second, how do i go about doing so? i cant find anything about it on the collegeboard website please help!

hm okay now im confused. i thought we had to send in score reports based on other comments in this thread about test scores, but on the website it doesn’t say anything about that under “Application” when it lists what we need for our application? can anyone clarify this for me? sorry for so many questions!

So we just say we get like 800-800-800 without proof lol? I’m not going to do that, but would they not want some definite evidence of our SAT score claims? I have no idea.
