Class of 2010

Hey, who on this forum is applying to Oberlin this year? Just curious.

I'll be applying ED (I haven't visited yet...but this is assuming I still like it as much as I do when I visit)

I haven't visited, but from what I read, it looks like I'll enjoy the atmosphere on campus. I'm a little worried about the location, though, because I thrive in major urban areas like Chicago. Now, I think I could handle the changes but I've never lived in a semi-rural area before.. it's just easy for me to say that now.

If I don't get into my ED school (and there is next to no conceivable chance I will) I will be applying to Oberlin. I haven't visited yet, but it seems like a really great place. Ever since I opened a letter with a tiny little introductory viewbook that said something like, "Think you can change the world? So do we." I knew I would be applying.

im applying i think. i visited and it was very nice, calm, and just seemed like an awesome place. i'd like to do an overnight stay sometime.

You guys Oberlin is awesome. I'm heading there in 2 weeks. They have a student only overnight in the fall where they offer you cheap airline tickets and fly a group of kids from your area out to oberlin for a visit. i think it was a thursday friday thing actually so you can sit in on classes. no parents. you stay with other students. the trip was great and cemented my desire to go to oberlin.
check the oberlin live journal for a flavor of what its like.

Future Obies: there is a thread about Oberlin on the college search page....

I think I'm going to--that is if I can get over the fact that it's in Ohio

DC a standard put down is "fat tourists from Ohio" god theyre everywhere ....but.....from investigating the history of Oberlin (the town) a bit the area was very lively in the 19th century with the underground railroad, abolitionists, crazy utopian communitarians etc. ..... oberlin has quite a legacy.

Oberlin is in Ohio only in the most literal sense. It's not like a typical small town in the state--it's actually a very cosmopolitan place.

I'm definitely applying. I most likely would apply ED, but financial aid might be a concern. I LOVE their dual degree program between the conservatory and the college. Being a singer and a violinist who's also interested in academia, it's really ideal for me. I visited the campus this summer, and it's really gorgeous. Very calm and serene, and something about it seemed distinctly academic. Thanks for the info about the overnight, Spiker, I'll definitely look into it.

BTW, I'm from Ohio, and I can tell you that it's not all fat tourists sitting in cornfields. Cleveland is a nice metropolitan area, and it's only about 30-40 minutes outside of Oberlin.

im applying ED...i hope to be a part of the class of '10!

i'm applying RD!

I'm applying RD. Let me just say you guys - I live about 40 minutes away and visit often. If you are very liberal and want to make change it's the place for you. Definitely.

hey where do you live? cuz i live about 40 mins away too

I'm not really going to advertise that on a public forum.

Where do you live?
