Helping out a neighbor yesterday, I noticed that the new UF application in now available online. The timeline for this year is:
Application Timeline - Freshman Class of 2007
Deadlines Early Decision Regular Application 1 Regular Application 2
Submit Online Application by October 2, 2006 Nov. 1, 2006 Jan. 16, 2007
Last Chance to Take SAT/ACT October November January

This year UF only requires ONE essay (instead of the two from last year) of 400-500 words (max.). No pretentious quotes to elaborate on. Just the “run of the mill” :

How will your individual background, experiences and personal identity influence your educational pursuits and your contributions to the campus community at the University of Florida?

Now, what does everyone here think that is indicative of? Is UF admissions becoming more numbers driven (SAT, GPA) and less personalized? Or did they just find it problematic to read so many elaborate essays last year? Any other theories? I just find it strange.
