Class of 2011 from Nepal...lets discuss here

one into mt.holyoke from wesleyan college in georgia…

congrats guys…for those who got transfered to good schools

Hey Class of 2012,
Can anyone of you answer me how much can a person earn in summer? Can I earn around 1000-4000 dollars? Can you also inform me how much you earned this summer?

Zangokar, i don’t think class of 2011 guys n gals have started to ork yet. Their summer break would start soon. I think it entirely depends on the state u r working at. U wudn;t get high earning oppurtunities in Missouri, Arkankas, Wisconsin, Minesotta . However, NY, NJ, LA and other urban states are different stories all together.

@ class of 2011 : However, since u guys r in US for a year, u must have better guesses than us. Please post: how much do u think can an intl student earn in summer. U can give the estimated figures in correspondence to the state…

can you even work in the US during the summer if you’re one a student visa? i think you can only work 1 summer, right?

Regarding working during the summer… you CAN work but legally, you can only work on campus…unless of course if you do some paid internship off campus…which counts towards you Curricular Practical Training (CPT) time limit… and as to how much you can earn…well…depends on what kind of work you have and how much you get paid per hour… it all comes down to simple maths…

$ 7(approx) per hour * 40 hours a week * 12 weeks - (housing + food and other personal expenses cost) = net summer income

Regarding the location you are in… it does affect your earnings little bit but I don’t think that is a big factor because I am in PA which is on the east coast with urban/ semi- urban setting and my friends in the south in Texas and in other places earn almost the same amount of money…so it shouldn’t make a big difference… and of course… it isn’t something you can help yourself as you can’t travel around US looking for a better job just in the summer…

last summer i did research on campus. they paid like $3500 for 10 weeks. i did part time job at the library as well. at trinity, you get free summer housing. for on campus job u dont have to use CPT or OPT. one of my fren is using his OPT to do an internship at NY. it pays arounf 13k, so it depends on what type of job u get. i m doin an internship in college this year which pays 4k and free housing.
any ways…if you didn’t kno abt OPT extension, this should be good. any science major can now have 29 months of OPT instead of regular 12 months OPT. that means a science student can stay almost two years after graduation and can do internship almost every summer. so u dont have to stay on campus everytime.

okay, so you if you find a position you can work on campus during the summer and it does NOT count towards CPT/OPT?

if you do an internship in the summer can you use CPT even if the internship is not required by the college (you do it completely on your own, but it’s relevant to your major)? or would you have to use OPT in this case?

working during summer on campus doesnt need CPT or OPT. u can work at most 40 hours a week. the second college depends on college. CPT is supposed to be related to your major and should be giving you only academic credit and no pay. i suspect u might have to use OPT.

to anyone from class of 2011 from Nepal
I am waitlisted in Franklin and Marshall
a guy who got there now has declined to go there
How much chance do I have to get admission???

I guess there are a lot who got waitlisted there, but don’t know how many accepted their place…so can’t really say…all the best though

TO the class of '11
How hard do you think is it to transfer from a bottom tier colleges ( caldwell/lee or sort of) to a better college or a university, any suggestions dais and didis???

Hey class of 2011,
Today I chatted with the international students of COLBY’s class of 2012 and almost 99% were from U.W.C. It seems that U.W.C. graduates tend to get good colleges very easily. Does anybody has idea about how competitive they are? In what aspect they are more qualified or stronger than us?

People from UWC colleges around the world tend to get into good colleges because

I) It is really competitive to get into these colleges in the first place due to which the people who graduate out of these colleges are usually pretty good

II) UWC colleges have IB program which is probably the most rigorous college preparatory course there is… so it makes sense that people who have taken IB in their their high school get a lot of attention…

It’s hard to say whether they are actually stronger or more qualified…but at least on paper…their credentials look better…

People who go to UWC are not only good on paper but they are strong in real life. The UWC experience is so intense that when you go to College, you are ready to kick the road. UWC is the best ! period. (LOL)
