Class of 2011 from Nepal...lets discuss here

congrats shail619 and porkey…
btw, i couldn’t understand what comfy said… isn’t it better if a college gives financial aid need-based rather than need-blind…giving need-based aid means that they will give aid to those who need…i.e. us we poor kids from nepal…
so, as far as i know … a college is best if it has need-blind admission(admission not depending on our financial aid document) and need-based financial aid (financial aid to match our need)

isn’t that true guys?

Yup…right…need blind that meets full demonstrated need…only few richest colleges have enough money to do that…

Congrats to shail619 and porkey…well done…

IUb is needblind but gives a lot of loans(minimum 5000/year). In addition financial aid doesn’t covers living expenses.

But then, not many colleges have so much money, federal grants also aren’t available for Int’l.

Tahnsx Sailesh an intl_trans.

many rich collo are not need-blind e.g. stanford, swat, grinnell, etc… maybe b/c they want some rich kids or are focusing on merits rather than poor.or mabye tryin to reduce intel applicants or maybe somin’ else

and abt IUB yes they impose lots of loans, im expecting abt 15k euro loan lol

wow. congrats Shail and Porkey. so with a good fin aid package r u guys gonna go for IUB?

thanx ToUSin007. If i don’t get in some good (v. good) US collo then i think i won’t be wasting my Euro500 deposit for IUB

thanks everyone…lets not talk about ‘not getting aid’ already…lets be optimistic guys!!!

What I meant was it’s a need blind school, so it’ll probably meet all your needs and I didn’t say it’s admission was need blind and it’s financial aid was something else. And another thing, I haven’t heard of colleges giving need blind financial aid to students. May be merit based scholarships but financial aid is always need based. And, whatever we discuss here is futile because Shailesh’s the one who’s getting it.

how do u guys send the application fee waiver to the colleges, i mean how have you been doing it?

I sent it along with the financial aid packet and sometimes along with the school report.

thanks buddhaforever. I have been doing the same but was still skeptic. anyway best of luck to all who are taking the SAT tomorrow.

Fee waiver is meant to be sent by GC

Fee waiver is not a big deal. They’ll accept it if they get it in any ways. I think it is ridiculous that we need fee waivers even when we cannot pay more than 1000 bucks/year. The college should have a policy for waiving fee for candidates with low incomes.

hehe…nice one buddhaforever…
Btw, How much it costs to take APs per exam for u?(1 INR=1 nepali currency…I hope so…)

Hmmm . Speaking of aid can we send the financial aid forms by fax. Would that be a problem.

no faxing if you have time…

a long nepali thread… hmm… but just for class of 2011…damn
'neays, good luck to u kids :P

issac newton, for AP exams i think there is a standard price everywhere…
last year when i took it, the price was 85 dollars per subject…
and the conversion is like this 1 Indian Currency= 1.6 Nepali Currency which the government tries to keep constant at all time…

U must hav took APs from ur school…isnt it?..wat is the cost like for a private candidate??(sorry I frogot to mention this…:p…)…

“no faxing if you have time…”
What does that actually mean. do you mean that unis dont accept faxed forms.cause if they dont then im screwed
