The only blank line on my son’s page is back in December…he didn’t even audition until February so not sure that would have been a decision date. At this point we are just waiting to see if he is maybe on the waitlist…as I guess most are:)…don’t you all just want all these schools to send the stuff so we can get on with it???:)

While my post may be offensive to you, it is nonetheless true. When a supposed “top” program accepts someone and a supposed "lesser"program does not, either the person did not audition well at the lesser school, or he/she did not fit what they needed. Everyone says that schools look to fill their need for the next 4 yours–the brassy belter, the ingenue, and yes, a class picture that shows some diversity. If the class picture showed no diversity, the school would receive numerous complaints (perhaps rightly so). It is a fact of life in 2008 and you cannot control it just like you cannot control if you fit the needs of a particular school at a particular time.

Nash, although i don’t agree with the statement that the only students who seem to get accepted “everywhere” are non-white, I do believe that it may be easier to “stand out” as a student of color or a different ethnicity. Maybe because we aren’t the one in a million blonde haired, blue eyed kids to audition. Or the beautiful brunettes which are a dime a dozen. I would think it actually would be harder to stand out in either of these two scenarios because there are just so many more of you. I am ethnic. I stand out. There is no doubt about it. Maybe that has helped, I am not really sure. I guess it’s easier to remember that one great “purple” girl if there were only a small percentage of “purple” girls auditioning. I would think at CMU as with most schools, they are looking for a class that is diverse in many respects and that need is something that most likely changes from year to year. It’s probably best to know the odds, do your best, and not worry about what this school or that may be looking for this year. By the way, I was not offended by your comment. I know you meant no harm by it!

I absolutely detest online cat fights but since I’m not one to sit quiet and shut up by nature I’m posting this one rant and stopping.

Nash - If I was a non-Caucasian I would find your post offensive. I also find the premise of your post totally inaccurate. One being if I read it correctly that the only people that get accepted “practically everywhere” are people of diversity. There is only one person on Facebook that got in “practically everywhere”. Yes she is a person of color - and if you google her you will see she won a prestigious national award for MT. The only other person on Facebook that did get accepted to many top programs is not a person of color.

CMU’s 2008 Showcase has 19 students - 2 of color. That would reflect a percentage less than the national population for their race Also extremely talented people that I am quite certain were admitted and are now graduating from CMU strictly on their talent not their diversity.

Further whereas my D’s high school (with a black population of less than 1%) cast a black Aunt Eller in Oklahoma (because she was the most talented) I am not sure at the college level how often they stray from the traditional ethnicity in casting. And if they do not, doesn’t that make it harder not easier for a person of color when schools are choosing an ensemble?

Finally, I rather doubt anyone is looking to a class of 20 at a large school for a diversity balance. Rather they would be looking at the entire population of CMU for diversity - not at the Drama Department alone.

We were told that at least a part of the “equation” is what will be marketable in 4 years. If there is a growing need for Asian actors, and not many out there to fill that need, well then guess what??? Every program looks at employability. They have to.

And, MANY programs we visited, not just CMU, specifically stated that DIVERSITY in the class (whether it was 8 or 28) was important. Diversity across many dimensions, of course.

My D recently had the pleasure of getting to know “practically everywhere” girl, and says she is truly as nice as she is talented. In fact, when hearing “practically everywhere” girl sing, my D was brought to tears. My D was not surprised, and was, in fact, THRILLED to hear that she got in “practically everywhere”!

According to the postings on the main thread - decisions go on line tongiht at midnight EST. Whether this is true remains to be seen. It’s past my bedtime :)

Please, nobody tell my D this, I want her to go to sleep happy tonight! She’s in NYC seeing the Joe Iconis show at NYU and will be home really late.

My son’s page hasn’t changed and it is past midnight there!! AAAhhhhh!!!

ditto… :'(

same here and I guess everyone’s letter is coming Pony Express?

Maybe we’re all accepted! If everyone has been called for MT, wouldn’t you think at least one of them would have posted on CC?

Someone posted on the main thread about college acceptance dates that carnegie mellon is now up…they posted this early this morning. Why is my son’s page not changed??? I’m mean, at this point, the best he can hope for is a waitlist…but it would be nice to know:) and I feel like I’m looking the wrong place or something!

Beachmom- reading those CMU posts I have concluded that the only thing we are going to get out of them is be driven nuts!

One person says letters are being mailed every day this week

One says that only the acceptances are being posted online - the waitlist and rejects later

One says that admissions said check online on Sunday

another claims they know the information will be posted by noon today

MOAP! LOL! You have most accurately summed up the various news reports we have gotten here. The only thing to do is batten down the hatches and wait until something arrives in the mailbox. At least, what’s what I think. ;)

Ok, I am no longer afraid of calling Admissions Offices. I have been pleasantly surprised to find they are actually really nice, in spite of me calling to ask the same question they’ve been asked a hundred times. But considering the “plethora” of conflicting information we’ve all heard, I decided it was time to go straight to the source.

I just finished speaking with a very kind woman in the admissions office, and she verified that yes, the letters have been going out all week. She said there’s no rhyme or reason as to the order the letters were sent out, it was just a matter of not being able to process them all in one day. She offered to check and see when my D’s was mailed, and it was sent out on Wednesday.

She said that decisions will be available online on the “Where Am I In The Process” page within 3-5 days of the MAILING date of your letter. Therefore, if it went out on Monday, you might be able to view it online somewhere between Thursday and Saturday. For my D’s, it should be available online anywhere between Saturday and Monday. Therefore, based on the way the mail tends to come to my house, we’ll probably know online over the weekend long before the letter ever arrives!

Thanks so much for taking the plunge and calling. Nice to have information directly from them:).

tiffw, you are my hero. Not that anyone in my house is really waiting breathlessly for this letter, but it is nice to know that they will eventually/have gone out … :)

My D checked online this morning and was accepted ( school of music-voice) but still no letter - our mail was just delivered!

Gila!!! What a fabulous accomplishment. Can I be one of the first to congratulate you!
