Class of 2012 Results: Celebrate, discuss, support here

Congratulations! If you have any parent-type questions about Chicago, please feel free to PM me. I have a son who graduated last year and a daughter who is a first year.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

Participants in this thread are reminded that the topic of this thread is congratulations about (college) class of 2012 offers of admission, and should stick to that topic in this thread, which will soon be quite lengthy.

Participants are also reminded that if someone is observed violating the College Confidential Terms of Service,

the credited response all the time and EVERY time is NOT to reply with a public post decrying the violation but to use the “report problem post” link that you will find on every post on CC. Do that each time and every time you see a post that is problematic, and let the moderation team jointly decide how to respond.

Congratulations to all the admittees, and best wishes to the applicants still awaiting news.

Daughter received $10,000 year merit scholarship at U Chicago - unexpected and very gratifying. Also, what a classy looking acceptance letter and folder - that elegant gray tone. They really have their own style don’t they?

Congtatulations, mammall, your daughter has an impressive list of acceptances.

^ Thanks, ThatMom - just one of many here on CC who are doing pretty well in a historic difficult year for admissions. I think we all need to keep the demographics in mind when we look at our kids’ results.

Yes, we found that in 2006, the farther from home, the better the scholarship
(but not on the level of your D).

D applied to 6 colleges: accepted to 5 and got a “likely letter” from one (most likely to be accepted).

Villanova University (accepted; $25,000 scholarship/year for 4 years)
Loyola College in Maryland (accepted; $35000 scholarship/year for 4 years)
Virginia Commonwealth University (accepted, Dean scholarship/Honors scholarship/ engineering (biomedical) scholarship, TBA).
College of William and Mary (accepted, FA/ TBA)
University of Virginia (likely letter)

^ Wow! Fantastic results.

bln1975, your D must be ecstatic! Any idea which lucky school she will decide to attend?

USC, UCSC, UCSD, NYU

yay me

Timely and Mammall,

Thanks.

It’s tough for her to make decision. She has eliminated VCU , Virginia Tech and Villanova and she will re-visit UVA, W&M and Loyola.

Hey CCkids - congratulations! great choices in a tough tough year!

he is in at
seattle university (albers school of business & economics program)
case western
rejected UW - seattle (fine with me)
this one makes me laugh so hard 'cause it is the lamest of them all: wait listed at Lawrence (only applied cause they have a rep for good study abroad).
WAITING IMPATIENTLY on long shot Emory

iwaveatcows, is your son heavily considering Albers? I applied and was admitted as well. Seattle U seems like a wonderful place to go to college.

So, this is a Parent’s Forum? How is everyone doing? I am so impatient and desperately awaiting S’s letters from his top 2 choices. He has been accepted to: Butler, Pitt, Creighton, UofPacific, Northeastern, UofA with fairly reasonable merit aid, but we haven’t heard from his 1st 2 choices (and I’m an alum of one of them). How did you parents handle the waiting and the possible disappointment? This is my first college student, so it is definatley a very emotional time for all of us.

^^university1,
May I suggest you check out another thread in the Parents Forum titled:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/475746-seeking-companions-vigil.html

If you introduce yourself there, I think you will find many companions. The thread we are on right now is looked at only sporadically as parents move in and out with announcements and congratulations. Think you will have more luck on the other thread…

My son J. (a public school student in a New Jersey suburb of NYC) has been accepted at Rutgers (the Honors Program), Macalester, and, most recently, the University of Chicago, which he’s ecstatic about. He withdrew his Sarah Lawrence application when he got into Chicago, to give someone else a chance. He’s still waiting to hear from Yale and Johns Hopkins, but I think that Yale is the only one he’d consider going to over the U. of Chicago, if he’s lucky enough to get in there – and it’s by no means a sure thing that he’d choose Yale. (He likes Chicago better than New Haven – imagine that!)

Donna

J. has now also been accepted by Johns Hopkins (he got an e-mail). I hope he at least thinks about it along with Chicago, because it’s a great school, and Baltimore isn’t such a bad town either!

The Yale news comes Monday evening.

Donna

Donna, sounds exciting at your house! It sounds nerve-wracking, too! UChicago…very nice! Congratulations!

It’s a big responsibility we have on influencing our kids in these decisions. We’re older, we think of things they might not have thought of, etc., but yet it’s scary to sway them…and it’s scary not to. :-)

My daughter is absolutely ecstatic because she’s been accepted for Johns Hopkins class of 2012 (though she’s already planning to stay there at least an additional 2 years). She applied to about 8 other schools, but her heart was set on JHU. She received notification yesterday - on my (her mother’s) birthday - while her grandmother and a couple of aunts were already at our home celebrating. What a perfect gift, seeing your child so fantastically happy!
