Class of 2012

your college tetrisfan?:D

Biological engineering, plus biomedical engineering minor. U?

great combination. You have your future mapped out. I am undecided, but International Studies is the most likely major for me. However, I am interested in Political Science, Economics, Creative Writing, Bilogy, Chemistry, Urban Studies.

I have about 2 years to choose. I’ll be sitting in classes of these subjects and find out my major. Otherwise, major in IS and minor in 2 of these would be great for me? Or double major?

I can’t wait for August to come.

jason, did you know that 50% students change their intended major while in college? So I don’t put much faith in this “have your future mapped out” talk. Neither should you.

what’s your intended major, skunk? :p

It doesn’t look lyk am gonna change coz … I don’t know but somthin tells me this is what I’ll do.

see below:

well, you’ve got a point. But, having your future mapped out doesn’t mean that you can’t change your decisions or inclinations later on. By using ‘mapped out’ I meant to say that sammyone is sure (at least at the present) of what he wants to do in future. I hope sammyone is a ‘he’… :)

Change is a part of growth.

Now that’s a good question, poly. My intended major is physics, but it is only my intended major. Haven’t got around to planning out my life yet.:stuck_out_tongue:
What about you?

Sure I am he. jasonshah, u r a he too, right? Of course I know what I want to do. but anything is possible. u never know- I may come full circle by December. :D

skunk, I don’t even have an intended major! :p

^^ LOL.
polydentate 1:0 skunk

I lykd that, polydentate. Real punch line. Sorry, skunk. :(

yay for International Studies!
I major in International Studies & Business. And NO, skunk, I won’t change it

(coz otherwise I’d had to transfer out of the joint-degree program that I’m in right now, which would be pretty stupid)

Rister I figured out your name!! Saw it on, ehm, someone’s Facebook. Hahaha. :)

Regarding use of calculators, it really depends on the instructors’ preference. For some of my math classes, such as Complex Analysis, we weren’t even allowed to use a calculator. Professors are wary that one could program equations or formulas into a calculator, therefore giving advantage to certain students.

jason and skunk: Yeah, lets hope I end up at Brown! :D

Hey Rister, what’s the difference (if any) between International Studies and International Relations?

Though the question is directed to rister, I’ll take the liberty to answer it.

I believe, IS majors generally study Area studies to complete their major. Area studies include Asian Studies, Africana Studies, European Studies, Latin American Studies and/or American Studies. On the otherhand, IR majors are more into governance, political science and these kind of stuffs. But, the work-field for both types of majors is the same.

However, now a days colleges have started merging both IS and IR. In UNO, I have to choose a concerntration to major. The options are Area studies or Topical Studies. The latter includes Environment issues, Diplomatic and International Organizations, Peace and Conflict studies and much more. And, rister, there’s “Business Track” program that suits your interest. It is a merge of International Studies and Business. Does the school you will be attending give that option? If yes, it would be great for you.

I am planning to major (if I do. not sure) in IS with Diplomatic and International Organizations and Peace and Conflict Studies as my concerntrations. Asian studies as a minor would be wonderful, because I believe in another 15 - 20 years or so, China, Japan, and India would skyrocket in terms of technology and finance. UNO’s IS majors are strongly suggested to complete a year or a semester in another university in Australia, UK and other countries + summer study abroad programs. It would be fun.

Hey guys, I collected my visa and the information on the ‘annotation’ part of the visa was typed wrongly (ie my college address) the guy there insisted that the annotation is useless and won be read… but I just don feel comfortable… how can I push for it to be changed? Should I go for the change?
