**Decision: WAITLISTED **

Stats:[ul]

[li] SAT I: 2250 – 800 M, 750 W, 700 R
[/li]

[li] SAT IIs: 800 Math II, 800 Chemistry, 790 Physics
[/li]

[li] ACT: 35 – 36 math, 36 writing, 33 reading, 35 science
[/li]

[li] GPA: 4.233 (max at my school)
[/li]

[li] Rank: 1 / 250
[/li]

[li] Other stats: On one of the top quiz bowl teams in the state, won state math competition last year and got 2nd in physics, math stuff, etc… piano for 12 years now, swimming on the local racing team, volunteering at the local hospital; 5 on AP World History, Calculus BC and AB subscore, European History, Physics C: Mechanics, and Chemistry, going to take AP Biology this year.
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]

[li] Essays: Mild, as best I could do. Didn’t think they were too bad…
[/li]

[li] Teacher Recs: Not sure, probably average. Could have been better, I suppose. One from my math teacher and another from my physics teacher, eh…
[/li]

[li] Counselor Rec: Dunno, couldn’t really choose
[/li]

[li] Hook (if any): Mom’s Thai, Dad’s Egyptian? if that had anything to do with it
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]

[li] State or Country: Illinois
[/li]

[li] School Type: Public, Somewhat competitive (10 people tied at #1)
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: Egyptian / Thai
[/li]

[li] Gender: Male
[/li]

[li] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: One of the top math people in the state, one of the leading scorers on my school’s quiz bowl team, playing piano for pretty much my life, religious and volunteer things, good test scores, killer AP scores for my strengths lol. Weaknesses, probably essays and recs.
[/li]

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Well, honestly I think I would fit into this “over-qualified” category that looks to be forming. Two of my friends got in besides me with lower test scores and worse extracurriculars, but then again one applied ED and the other is fairly rich… Eh.
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors: Too qualified? lol

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Well… if they don’t want me then I don’t want them! lol. WashU wasn’t too high on my list, but it still would’ve been nice to get in. Oh well, I’ll deal with what I get.

Applied for financial aid btw :(

Wow did anyone get rejected?

Any internationals who requested financial aid got in?

Decision: Accepted!

I’ve been wanting to do this since the first time I ever came on College Confidential. And it feels good.

I’m happy about this acceptance, actually. :)

[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Admissions are impossible to predict, so I don’t really know. I, along with many others here, are definitely qualified.
[/list]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I don’t know if I will accept a spot on the waitlist.

Hoony0429- That’s exactly your problem. You were EXPECTING to get accepted. Virutally no one, even with amazing stats, should expect to get into WashU, Northwestern, or Cornell. Any top-tier college is going to have to reject a lot of qualified people. WashU could fill their class four times over with academically qualified people- it’s going to come down to subjective things and a lot of luck.

Scootypuff and confidentiality- I was international asking for aid and i didn’t get it.
uhm, i checked my status the day of the CC discussion that wustl had released decisions online. And i’ve always heard that it’s more difficult as an international applicant.

Interestingly, I got my greencard the day of my WUSTL decision. I wonder if a change of status would have done anything…Oh well, we’ll see with other colleges, so i’m keeping my fingers crossed

SATs: 750 math 710 reading 800 math 2
Hardest courseload possible at challenging private school

State tennis champ

I’m pumped, maybe I’ll see some of you guys in the fall. I can’t wait!

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Always wanted to do this. Applied to engineering, so I dunno if that did anything. Not terribly excited.

Here is how the story went.

I always get annoying college mail from WashU. So I picked up the FedEx mail immediate delivery, and I thought, “Oh crap, what did my dad do”. I opened it and I got some more of those annoying WashU fliers. They had some information about a multicultural seminar in April, and I thought, “Damn, not another one of these annoying things”. So then I bring it to my dad, who is somehow fascinated with all these small things. So I pull things out, and I find a letter. I read, “You are accepted” and my first reaction was a nonchalant, prosaic “Oh”. So yea…

^ You sound excited :)

^ Yeah, you are far from good enough to be waitlisted. Your results in a few weeks will probably be very disappointing. An Indian kid who’s into math/science? Nice. Real nice. Also, dual enrollment is about as far from a hook as possible.

Seriously, though. Your attitude is totally unnecessary. If you aren’t excited about WUSTL, you don’t have to post your stats in a thread full of applicants who are excited about getting in or upset about being waitlisted (or, of course, overqualified…ha!).

**Decision: Waitlisted **

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Dag Nabbit. I hope I can get off the waitlist sometime soon? That would be nice. So if you know you’re not enrolling, please tell WashU as soon as possible I guess :)

I didn’t think I’d get in, because I never even looked at the campus, or had an interview. Maybe I’ll go check it out in April. Congrats to all, and good luck in the college process! (Looking at these posts, I’m beginning to think that luck is a huge factor)

i wish college wasn’t so freaking expensiveee

Come to Canada. My first-year tuition at University of British Columbia (ranked highly for its med school) is $4300. For Quebec residents attending Quebec universities, it’s $1800 a year in tuition.

wow that’s a pretty cool deal
and i heard British Columbia was just beautiful. Oh and I “speak” some french! Hah but i think I’m too used to the U.S. to spend 4 years in Canada and I’m not sure my parents would want me living in a different country. I don’t even have a passport haha
