Class of 2013 - Some things you may want to know

I’m a guy, and I have trouble fitting all my clothes into the Colby dressers, which only have three drawers. Colby also has some 5 drawer dressers available, but not enough for everybody who wants them. Most dorms have a standalone wardrobe, except for a few of the renovated frat row ones that have built-ins, which I usually end up tossing clothes into.

So, long story short, get an organizer if you’re bringing a lot of clothes and won’t just end up leaving them around your room.

Hi everybody! So, we were at a Colby event last night for people in our state, and the campus life reps said OFFICIAL HOUSING ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE MAILED FRIDAY. And… (drum roll, please!) COOT ASSIGNMENTS GO OUT IN THE MIDDLE/END OF NEXT WEEK! So there it is, straight from the mule’s mouth! :)

The housing syuff was mailed yesterday… People in NE have already receieved their letter.

…and today (last night) everybody got their “first class” emails! Hey–are these linked to your COOT group?

What do people do for October break if they live far away? Do most people go home or are there still people on campus? It’s only a four day weekend so I am debating whether it is worth the airfare.

thinker88–are you in CT (your “location” says so)? My impression is that the ride board is pretty active, and that it’s not too difficult to catch a ride home with someone, especially if you’re in New England. Current folks–is this true?

Sorry, I should probably change that. My family will be moving to Wisconsin during the summer.

Well, that’s another matter entirely! Where’s your roommate from? Maybe you can spend the four days with him!

S said a lot of kids stay on campus and most of the ones that live in New England go home for the break.

A lot of kids who aren’t from New England go home with friends who live nearby. My impression is that most who live outside New England don’t go home since it’s a pretty short break and Thanksgiving is not far away. Maine is beautiful in October and there would be a lot of good options for a wonderful long weekend right in the area.

Interesting. I’ll take your comments into consideration. Thanks for the help.

i’m going to stay on campus during the oct break

Okay, current students/parents–here’s what my D would probably call the most random question of all–do the washing machines take liquid detergent or powder?

I know, it’s getting ridiculous.

Both. All the machines are HE front-loaders, fyi.

Thank you! Another loose end tied up! :)

…and here’s another one! My husband can’t believe that there are no shelves of any kind in the rooms, but this is what the Colby housing site seems to be saying. What’s the scoop? Should we be planning to get bookshelves or some such storage/shelving/milk crates?

S uses milk crates we got from Staples.

Nope, no shelves aside from the single one in the standalone wardrobe. I have the $20 Walmart bookcase, and it works fine. (It also fits nicely on top of my desk.)

Do freshmen usually limit themselves to 100 level classes? Or (perhaps a better way of saying it) would it be odd for a freshman to take a 200 level class?
