@schofield no problem bro.
@AM123 did ok.much better than my SAT’s!

i have not posted here in a while now. being nostalgic, i was just going through the posts. i think i have to share something with you.

competitive liberal arts colleges are really good. you will have a small community with fabulous education. but if your planning on applying to a less competitive private college, that will not be a wise decision. many of my friends who joined such colleges later transferred to state universities with lower scholarships just for better education.

mississippi state univeristy can be a good safety for you. i was in a dillemma on which college to go. i joined mississippi state univeristy and i think i have made a very wise decision. i have joined honors college here. so i get the same small college experiene with top notch academic environment. contrary to popular belief state universities have huge funding. so you have lots of opportunities on research, on campus jobs, clubs and organisatios etc.plus we have CO-OP program here. under that you get hands on professional experience related to your major.

and trust me when i say this. college ranking is a ********. it can give you a rough idea. but never judge colleges to apply on the basis of their ranking. do research on the programs they have and see whether you wanna do ti or not.

How’s this essay? Could you guys rate it out of 6?

Music is life. It is the eternal force that has the power to stimulate the human mind, and its emotions. It is the force which drives the divine emotions of man. It reaches the depth of reason, flows across the scent of humanity and roams over the emotions of mankind. It has proven itself to be one of the most essential driving forces of human emotions.

Music has rolled over various boundaries. The types of music these days are well over our imagination. Since the early types of music like jazz and blues to the currently famous hiphop and techno, music has transformed itself into a vast sea.

Among the types, classic rock is an unforgettable and probably the most important stepping stone in the history of music. The Rock Era, as described by music legends and professionals was the age of freedom. People heard what they wanted to hear. They sensed the music flowing and touching their hears and minds and had successfully reached such a level of hypnotism that they could do whatever it took to listen to what they wanted. Often described as the Golden Era of Music History, The Rock Era has been successful to reach overwhelming heights, not only in the hearts and minds of its listeners, but to the whole music generation.

@all…In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer)… i found this when i was filling up my common app. form in the website…do we need to fill it too?? arent we suposed to fill the personal essay and the supplements from the colleges only?? where did this come from??

Fnrs do you have any idea?>

^Yes, you have to fill that. That question is in the common app and will be received by every university.
@pinkfloyd: What’s the topic for the essay?

hasn’t this topic been discussed earlier in the thread as well ? the short common app reply thing.

@krb: thanks for the info…:)… how’s the aid??

@pinkfloyd4life

i would rate it to be 3. 50% is not a good score.

the reoccurence of “it” is quiet annoying in the first paragraph. Although i have no objection to the use of pronouns, the use of synonyms for music would be much appreciated. I am not sure of this, pinkfloyd guy could use vibes?? maybe.

The brevity of the second paragraph meant that the information regarding “various” types of music was also brief. Also, the presence of some absurd sentences spoiled the whole picture. For example “The types of music these days are well over our imagination.” leads to absolutely no where. to be honest, it has the feeling of empitness and the reader expects you to explain How? but only to be given the other information.

A seperate cloncluding paragraph needed.

clearly, the build up to the main idea you are trying to acheive is good. however it lacks the appeal.

@mitbabu

thanks for the reply. i appreciate it. this essay was the outcome of a loadsheddin night, when i had nothing to do. so i wouldnt even consider this close to my best attempt. anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

@duke99-- really?? can you tell me how long has it been|?|?? i think it will take hours searching back pagewise…

@pinkfloyd4life

you are welcome. loadshedding eh? haha.
one thing i did notice was that you wanted to grade it on a scale of 6. i rekon it’s for your S-A-sucking-T’s right? if that’s your case and if you did manage to write that in 25 min. hands up. it’s good. i would grade it to be 5 maybe. the time factor really counts, you see. TARAAA as i said before(hope this doesnt annoy you hehe) you need some serious re checking on that stuff.

that said…it really takes balls to write a good essay in 25 min. i always sweat my a$$ off when i have to do that.

@evryone
how is it that we can create alternate versions of the common app to send different personal essays to different colleges.
Is it that we select one college, press SUBMIT, select another college, edit the essay, and then press submit again?
Does anyone know if this works?

according to the common app video tutorial, after u send the common app to one college, the information u entered is set as a format for all other colleges…so u just need to edit stuff (like maybe even change your essay) for each college after the first one and send it

@duke99
sorry but that doesn’t work…once u have choosed to submit…all ur information(including basic info…high school info and also ur college essay) cannot b changed…if u really want to send diffn essays then the only method as far as i kno is sending the application by post…

@decoy7
are u sure bro?..so one essay is all we have??..change garnai mildaina?

so one essay is all we have if we’re submitting common app online?..are you absolutely sure??

Common App.org:
All data will be transferred from the original version to the alternate and it is all editable. However, any uploads you’ve done (personal essay or additional information) will not be transferred. Please upload these into any alternate version of the application you have created.

I hope that helps now!
