Class of 2014!

International student…I have a question.

What does it mean to be an international student, application-wise? I know that it means you are not a US citizens etc but what I’m asking is does it make a difference? Some colleges it seems have a certain percentage of international students.

Few people I’ve met said it was a disadvantage (I’m an international student) while
others said it’s actually an edge to be an international student. I don’t even know anymore.

What is it? Should I be satisfied or upset? It does cut back a lot of scholarships which
I’m quite upset about…:(

It depends on your country, but in general(especially in India) it sucks to be an international.

I think it depends on a) how strong an applicant you are, b) whether you need financial aid, c) what country you’re from and d) the individual colleges.

If you’re applying to a need-blind school, have an interesting background, decent test scores etc then it might work to your advantage as you’ll stand out in the pool. Alternatively, if you’re applying to a college that gives minimal aid to internationals, have some average ECs but great scores, or the other way round, then it might work to your disadvantage because while you might just be qualified to be admitted if you had that profile and were a US citizen, the fact that you’d need full aid would count against you.

@ Quasi
IF you wanna learn it I’m holding a workshop in December for how to make your poi and few lessons in spinning it  Should I email you the coordinates? :P

Yeah, I’ve also heard that its harder for internationals from India, Korea, China cause a lot of people are applying from there. My country however, there are less than 30 of us total that are applying to American colleges, and I’m the first one in the history of my school to be applying to a US college. Hopefully that’ll work to my advantage, although I don’t know if its even relevant crosses fingers

By the way, the /late message was for gary. Who deleted a post :p

OMG nelesy!!! You have to do it again during the CC meetup. OKAY??? Okay!

Sure thing loff
Okay, now I am officially experiencing withdrawal cause i haven’t played with fire in like FOREVER (its more like two weeks but still, thats 2 weeks 2 long)

everyone - well, not everyone but just the people who are stressing:
okay. thats probably everyone.
ANYWAY.
remember, even if you have an impeccable app, its STILL a crapshoot.
so who cares if your app’s not perfect? i know my transcript is a fail, lol. a fair few Bs and even a few Cs. it’ll ALL BE OKAY. JUST WRITE CRAZY GOOD ESSAYS AND CROSS YOUR FINGERS.
btw, TheRoad, harvardyaleamherstprinceton are needblind for internationals, if you want to try them.
and januarysubjecttesttakers, HURRAH for us. lit, maths1, maths2, HERE I COME AGAIN.
not that im complaining about 750 and 770, but still. :)

*** you retaking a 770 and 750 for?

Okay guys yesterday went to a lecture where a counselor and an official SAT essay grader was talking about the supplement essays and she kept stressing how important those were! They are just as important as your personal statement. She told us that at some schools even they just look at the short supplement and if that interests them then they continue reading your app, if not then tough luck mate. And don’t go over the word limit! If it says 250 words its best to write 240 words, because they literally stop reading at 250 so don’t write more than whats instructed! And another thing that is important, know the school’s mission statement, they all have key words that you’ll notice they use all the time. Use it against them! Basically camp on their website for a while before writing your supplement.
The essays are REALLY IMPORTANT! (Columbia was one of the examples that value the essays a lot)

ZOMG nelesy write your essay on playing with fire :p

^Seconded haha.

Yeah, the admissions officers would be like “Dig this, yo” and the Dean of Admissions would snap you up in a jiffy :p

whats playing with fire?

Nothing that a hair licker would understand.

stares at tetris for referring to her as a third person :p

tetris isn’t the hairlicker, you are.

You guys really think that would make me stand out? Hmm… when I think about it, I only know a handful of firedancers and most of them from foreign countries haha. Idk, I already wrote my personal statement this summer and it incorporates something I’m really bad at versus something I breathe (read: entrepreneurship) haha. But maybe I could use it for a supplement essay? :stuck_out_tongue: l
What would you contribute: Fire show ;)

ccprofile is clearly delusion. Perhaps this is the onset of a psychosis.

@nelesy: That would be epic haha :D
