Class of 2014!

Are you supposed to take lot of physics and scientific stuff in the core? I mainly fell in love with it for its LitHum part.

I think the Core is like mainly a little bit of something from all departments. I might be wrong though. Either way, I don’t like being told what to study. I can deal with distribution requirements, but Core, uh huh, no. I think I closed my home page for Columbia when I saw that you have to take freaking PE for a half credit. Sorry, but what is this, middle school? I can work out perfectly well on my own, thank you very much. (can, not that I do haha)

Do you guys know of any I way I could find the two ppl at Harvard from my country? Going through the 2000 ppl of the 2013 class would prolly be hard and I can’t find anything on google. I’m really curious since I haven’t heard of anyone getting higher than 2000 from my country. I’m guessing those two are immigrants?

Yeah! And then there’s the swimming requirement… Gruesome! But Columbia is still cool. And besides, they had the funnest questions on their app! And it’s in New York! And they have brilliant professors! And… Please stop me from turning into a maniac. I can ramble about every single one of my schools like this!

EDIT: Bilguun, this isn’t freshman, it means in the whole college, so on average they take 0.5 a year!
Well, if they weren’t immigrants, and scores <2000, you are in a really, really enviable position haha!
Although, you are an immigrant yourself though, right? Maybe you would also be counted in the
Slovenian demographic?

I love the LitHum part. And that you have to take PE. I’m lazy, so it would be perfect for me to have forced physical activity to jolt me into action in the beginning. (So I can consume gappy’s cookies with impunity, of course. :p)

Can we PLEASE not talk about Columbia? It makes me angsty. I almost cried a little when I got the viewbook.

Edit: Bilgy, chill out. You can’t do anything about anything now, just wait till you get into Harvard and then find your countrypeople on your own.

@Bilgunn - How would you know if someone got >2000 on the SAT in your country? I know for me, I have no idea who got what, even if we come from the same school.

@GB - So true. SO true. I fall in love with schools I wasn’t even loving before applying.

I know of the SAT scores of practically everyone in my city! Particularly if they’re good. I don’t know why, I think it’s because students that take the SATs generally come from a certain kind of school and they all have this old-boy-network-type thing going on.

Please. Yeah, sure you’re being given a set of requirements and whatnot, but I think since we’re used to the high school BS that’s totally watered down, it isn’t the same experience. Nothing wrong with having a bit of a renaissance education, knowing a little about everything. It isn’t high school all over again, it’s college.

Besides, you get to be in NYC for taking the Core, which is the greatest plus there could possibly be. I mean, depends on what you want to do in the city. If it’s just living the Seinfeld lifestyle, perhaps not as important. But if you actually want to be engaged in the world around you, there’s no better place to do it than at Columbia. Yeah sure, it may detract from the typical college experience, but it’s there. It really is the best of both worlds.

Er, hi ?

And yeah, I like that part about it. I would kill to go to Columbia, but I didn’t apply. Moving on?

Ah! We have a domestic intruder! Hi Obstinate! I share your Core and Gotham love!
New York = energy. But I am the only one here who applied, I think (or you too Gappy?), so it is not really a purposeful discussion anyway.

Anyway, I know no ones SAT score! That is because I know no one who ever took the SAT. Oh wait! I am lying! I know one guy who applied to HYPSM last year and had a 1700…
We are rather underinformed in the Netherlands. I thank the universe for letting me discover CC!

@Obstinate - Okay, lets just agree to disagree, shall we? I’m not a huge fan of the Core and living in a city, but obviously you are. There are so many reasons why I didn’t apply to a lot of schools, and some of them were stupid, I won’t pretend otherwise.

Either way, I agree with Quasi girl, lets move on shall we?

Anyway, have all your apps been received by the colleges you applied to Quasi?

Nah, I haven’t been contacted by Williams yet. And somewhere else, I can’t remember which one just yet.

You?

Actually, have you guys ever thought about how many people must be lurking this thread? Considering it has 200.000 views! :open_mouth: We ARE DZE FAMOUZ OF DZE INTERWEBZZZ

EDIT: I have only really received confirmations of Harvard, Princeton and Amherst… But they have all been downloaded. Yours aren’t? (And I got the common app emails!)

Lawl GB. We have to watch what we say now, there’s paparazzi!

Guilty, I think I saw the document last year and it had only one Mongolian so the additional one must be 2013? I have been living the past few years in Mongolia, so I’ll most certainly be counted as a Mongolian with a certain Slovakian flavor. Yeah, only people from certain schools apply from here and they add up to only 50 per year but the number was prollly much lower a few years ago, and people don’t usually get higher than 2000 here, so I assume that those two had lived in an english speaking country for quite a few years. I’d like to confirm that though.

Qasi, if I get in there… I just can’t imagine what I’d do. Too incomprehensible and far away.

We’re too famous. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

I’ve been contacted by all my colleges. Not all completed apps though, around half are not completed yet.

Bilgy, if you don’t get in, who does?

gappy: When’re your deadlines? :S

My setting is similar to that of Qasi’s. Applicants are few, come from only certain schools and the good ones all know each other through various links.

Yeah, none of my colleges have received all the info of my school yet, I’m afraid :frowning:
Like, my recs and everything! That could very well be because my school decided to send everything in 2 WEEKS LATE! Aargh. Well, I’ve called every school, and they all said it was fine (with a fax here and there)

EDIT: It is completely different here! Like, we have a couple of international schools, but those mainly are expats from the US or other nationalities. The few applicants the top schools do get (I can only guess how many, but general conjecture says around 30 for Harvard, a little less for the others) are mainly independents from schools who’ve never had people applying abroad before!

@Quasi - what deadlines? Financial aid?

Sigh, I can’t wait for April already.
