Class of 2014!

@GB : I wanna help you reach 1000. :)

What’s your first choice college GB??

Whohooo! Only 14 posts to go!

Ranked:

 1. Harvard and Princeton (it’s a tie!)
 2. Columbia and Amherst
 3. The rest!

Yours?

Yale/Brown

Amherst/Vassar

The rest.

Haha we both have Amherst! hi-5.

How many safeties did you apply to? This whole waiting game is making me super nervous.

Doesn’t the lack of community annoy you at Columbia?
Mine is:

 1. Princeton/Yale
 2. Brown/Cornell
 3. Tufts
 4. Harvard/Stanford/Dartmouth

The ranking isn’t really relavant though, I really just love them all, Princeton might be the real king of all though(so it makes no sense it shares that rank with Yale, but do not feel like changing it anymore:p)

Really, there’s a lack of community at Columbia? A friend of mine goes (well a friend of a friend who’s also kind of a friend), she says its hyper competitive. I would fail against all the high school valedictorians, seriously.

EDIT : Then again, I would fail at all my other schools though. Oh well.

I actually quite liked Columbia’s community feel when I was there, although I’d prefer a more isolated campus. I am a city person though, I love wandering around and shopping for books and things once in a while; so that’s a big plus of all schools in my top 4 (except for maybe Amherst).

You guys are lucky not all your top choices are also the absolute top schools in terms of admission percentages! Although JJ, would you really turn down Harvard for Tufts (nothing against Tufts, but both are pretty similar in several ways)?

I have a couple of safeties, not in the US though. I have applied to some other US colleges, but they are still really competitive.

Mm oh yeah I forgot. You were turned down by Oxford right (or am I totally amnesiac?) Which UK schools did you apply to?

LOL@ our schools are less competitive. Sure, by like 3%

Haha Everyone keeps saying: If you get into Harvard, you go to Harvard. They do have a point, but as far as the “school feeling” goes, so not the academic status, Tufts is a better fit for me. I think I would go to Harvard though. It is more likely I am going to Tufts however:p.
I love the city too(total city slicker) and going to college in NYC seems amazing. I heard however that there was no real “campus feel” or community, and that was a big turnoff for me. GB, I have no safeties(except for UVM, but I do not want to go there:P), what are yours??

Hahaha, Tufts seems like a really cool school though! Did you do the video essay for them?
And you shouldn’t necessarily go to Harvard above just any school, of course not!, but I meant, since Tufts and Harvard share a lot of characteristics, it would be hard to pass by all the extra opportunities Harvard offers.

And Gappy, I’ve applied to a range of UK schools, but I’d much prefer going to the US!
I did get an Oxford interview, so I went there for a couple of days, but unfortunately was rejected in the end… My only salvation is that I made it pretty far (last 30 out of >250), haha, and I didn’t really had my heart set on the school anyway. And your schools are of course just as selective, but I mean, mine are literally ranked by selectivity, and I didn’t really meant it to turn out like that! hahaha! At this point I do really regret not applying to more reach schools. I wish I had also applied to Yale, Chicago, Dartmouth and Penn… But what’s done is done right!

Actually, Columbia has a pretty nice campus, all green and sunny and nice. Its actually one of the few schools in NYC that has such a huge campus, I think because it was bought way back when, it’d be insanely overpriced to buy land in NYC now.

If I get into Harvard and Yale/Brown, I’d have to think a lot.

If I get into Harvard and Amherst/Vassar, I’d still have to think a lot. I’m not gonna go around saying no to Harvard without thinking things through. I mean, I know we’re not supposed to care about name or whatever but its Harvard. Arguably the only US school known by everyone in my country besides Yale.

Yeah after the Catholic church, Columbia is the largest private real estate owner in New York City! In the 1930s they sold their botanical gardens to, I believe, Rockefeller, who used it to build Rockefeller Center! I think that their campus ground would be worth billions and billions right now!

Oh no! This is just tragic! I could have made my 1000th post, while reaching 9000 posts in this thread + being on the 600th page! The first two can still work out though!

I is HEAR.

Quasi my love. I iz missing you. What haz you been reading? Has he replied yet? ;)

Ohohoohoh! Which books did you get?

I haz been reading The Sun Also Rises.

I haz come to the conclusion that guys in wire-rimmed glasses are HAWT.

AND NOZ. I HAS BEEN CHECKING FB EVERY 15 MINUTES AND NOOOO. :(

Edit: I have got In Cold Blood, The Land of Green Plums, Empire, The House of Mirth and My Name Is Red.

The Land of the Green Plums! I bought that a while ago but it’s in my cupboard. Can we read it together after I’m done with The Prestige?

LOL. You’re just as nervous as I am. Or excited. I sent in my app.

How’s the book you’re reading now?

tetris only comes out to play when quasi is here. I iz sad that we are not good enough for tetris :(

Why am i talking like ansorx or whatever his name is?

Someone slap me.

I have only read In Cold Blood, which I really loved and a little bit of The House of Mirth (Edit Wharton right? Otherwise I haven’t!)

I hate you guys for stealing my epic 600th page/9000th post/1000th post combination.

Err I’m totally still eating brownies (notice the lack of capitalization). I’m only calling myself a Brownie rather than a Brunonian because of those chocolatey wonders.
