I’m not sure what’s so lifechanging in those colleges, but some of them are known to be pretty good. Beloit, Cornell, C of Wooster, Reed, and Wheaton come to mind. Well, Cornell not so much. But Reed certainly is worth a try. Then again, it all depends, you should know where you stand. For some those schools are matches and for some - back-ups.

@gary7-If you’re a boy that would be a perfect reason.

Much of the action and gossip for us is usually outside the classes. And it’s even more fun when you actually get the ‘permission’ to ‘bunk’ from the teachers.

Official leaves count as absences in our school. They’re on the report card. And gary, bunking is bunking whether it’s parent-sanctioned or not. That’s the difference between legitimate and illegitimate bunking. My parents are cool about my not going to school…actually, they’re cool about everything. Never forced me to study as a kid.

There is never any action in our class! Haha. ccprofile, where are you from, btw?

I’m from Nepal but been to India(more specifically Lucknow) for quite a lot.
Same here, the only condition my parents have is there is no problem if you bunk once in a while as long as you inform them that you’ve bunked.

Hey cc! Which branch? I’m in CMS Aliganj, Sector ‘O’. I assume you know one of those LDA/GN guys Btw, official leaves as such don’t count in my school either. But they DO when the school itself sponsors camps for maths olympiad/NTSE etc. Only catch is my stupid teachers never know the exact dates, so I erm…‘extend’ my vac period a bit. Or maybe more than a bit :P

@gary:i’m a bit more acquainted with the GN one and one thing I noticed wwas that they really do overburden the students with work. Those camps for physics olympiad here are held during the holidays and the school shows absolutely no interest.
BTW those extended vacations are a kind of bunking too but in this case you won’t have any friends with you.

@cc- I have studied for about 2-3 months in GN Know almost every smart 12thie there. If you can name your exact friends I might be able to tell. And as far as friends are concerned, except for a couple all my friends are in my coaching classes So thats not a prob.

Believe me when I say 95% of students with some sort of ambition in Lucknow don’t have the option to understand a chilled out life… Some exceptions like Romil will be there off course. But others, no way. My best friend will easily make one of the best psychologists or paleontologist in India. But he had had to join the JEE-race as well. Its just the screwed educational-social-financial system here that compels you to do what you’re supposed to according to those around you.

Though what I’m doing doesn’t mean my life is totally drained I still love my life, my school, my friends and Italian food :)

Our school mag came out today. There were like 5 stories about social expectations making people take up JEE stuff and killing themselves because of it.

Oh, and I can’t remember if I’ve said this already but a few days ago I was walking down this road in my uniform and this police dude stopped me. He was all, “Which class are you in?” and I told him and then he was like, “Science?” I shook my head. “Commerce?” Another shake. “insert italics here Arts?” “Um. Yes.” (Also, Humanities sounds better than Arts.)

Him: speechless, but with eloquently disgusted expression And then he walked away.

So now I hate police officers, to add to the hate going on around here.
