Class of 2014!

I’m going to Penn!
Congrats to everyone :)

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! Commiserations to rejectees group hug <3

I was rejected everywhere last night.

Still waiting on Oberlin and Mount Holyoke.

I have nothing else to say on the matter.

Congratulations Everyone! =)

@ portugueseninja - It’s okay, I was rejected everywhere last night as well… & still waiting to hear back from Michigan and Northwestern though I highly doubt those will come through.

Again congrats to all those that got into their dream schools…

I’m kinda glad I was a bit tipsy when I got my depressing results and even though I wanna never speak of them again, I reckon I should probably put them up here anyway:
Penn, Columbia and Yale rejections (no Penn or Columbia interviews so sorta expecting that) and a Dartmouth waitlist. I forgot to sign up to Harvard’s email decision thing so I still have a few days to wait to receive what is almost definately gonna be a rejection.

In hindsight, I reckon I had a pretty good application but my 630 SAT1 math score probably pulled me down massively. I still have a Cambridge offer, so I guess its not all that bad - America will just have to wait 4 more years for me to apply for postgrad places.

Congratulations to everyone with acceptances and commiserations to everybody in my boat - but then again, remember that whatever your decisions and wherever you go, these next 3/4 years are going to be amazing, and your futures will be bright!

Hi guys -
A massive “congratulations” to everyone who got in, and commiserations to those who (like me) crashed. I got rejected by everywhere, apart from Princeton (what the hell?) who waitlisted me.

Does anyone know what the odds are like for waitlisted students?

Congrats everyone who got in! and im sorry to everyone who didnt!

So, final results:

IN: Stanford, Brown, UMass Amherst, NYU, BU, BC
No go: Princeton

Was a bit sad about the Princeton rejection, but I find it hard to complain after being admitted to both Stanford & Brown. Feels completely surreal.

Congratulations to everybody else who got in!

Any Yale 2014?

I was accepted and am contemplating matriculating.

I cannot decide, WAAAAH. Me needs helpies

jjavdm - where are you deciding between?

and Bilguun - you have no idea how jealous that sentence makes me :)

Between Brown and Cornell… My brother goes to Cornell, so the entire family is on Cornell-promotional tour. I also like Brown though. The schools are so different though and that is exactly what makes it so hard… Where did you get in?

Brownnnnnnnnnnnnn

My instinct would definitely be to go for Brown, but (as you say) they’re massively different colleges. It’s definitely not an easy decision but it is, perhaps, a simple one.

Have you had a chance to visit both?

I haven’t got in anywhere in the US - waitlisted by Princeton (with absolutely no hope, I’m afraid) and rejected everywhere else. I’ve got into Glasgow (in Scotland) and probably Trinity College Dublin (in Eire), so my decision is basically between those.

I know! My instinct says Brown too, but academically, they are just as good right?? I havent had the chance to visit Brown yet. I have been at Cornell, but didnt actually do a “tour”.

Congrats on your european unis!! Sorry about the american ones… Where are you from?

Hey guys, I’m officially leaving CC. You’ve got me on FB and stuff, so we won’t lose touch ;). But thanks for the most amazing year EVER!

Bye !! I’m sure you won’t be able to help checking CC from time to time !
Enjoy your freshman year !! (Going to Brown right ?)

Academically, I think they’re approximately equally “strong” - any difference there may be in the quality of teaching is dwarfed by the difference in atmosphere (both inside and outside of academics). Brown is veeery big on academic flexibility (no required courses by the university, and you can take any class pass/fail). The vibe of the place, whilst not as hippy-ish as its reputation might suggest, is still very liberal/hipsterish - lots of vegans, student activists etc. I’m told (by a friend who’s at Brown) that there’s quite a lot of drug culture (weed/adderall), but I wouldn’t let that make your decision. Brown is wonderful, and truly unique - whilst its academics might be on a par with Cornell etc, I can honestly imagine some people turning down HYP for it. In that way, it punches well above its weight. The one thing that put me off was that it’s (superficially) quite similar to my high school, so it wouldn’t have felt like such a fresh start. That’s just me, though.

I’ve never visited Cornell, but I’m told the atmosphere there is very “work hard, party hard”. I’m told the student body is very “driven”, which I don’t like much (part of why I didn’t apply). The flipside of that is, of course, that it might challenge you more academically, particularly if you’re the type who thrives on competition. Greek life is very big there (unlike Brown), which could be a positive or a negative, I suppose. Along with that, quite a bit of drinking culture, too.

I’ve been rambling, and I wouldn’t take my thoughts too seriously - after all, I’m just another applicant, and I haven’t even visited Cornell. Whatever you do, though, make sure you’re doing it for YOU. I know that’s a clichee, but (like most clichees) it contains a grain of truth. These are both incredible colleges, and I’m sure you, and your family, will be proud no matter which you decide to attend.

I’m from England (and fairly desparate to get away, as you can probably tell!) - how about you?

I was waitlisted at Penn. Let Mission:Get off waitlist commence!

Hi guys! I’ll be leaving CC soon, because I’m finally DONE with college stress! Looks like Amherst for me, because April 1 gave me THREE waitlists: Brown, Dartmouth and Yale. I’ll send in updates, hope to get off those waitlists, but till then I’m psyched about Amherst! :D
