@Wolverine86, I’m sort of surprised that you didn’t work “chicken wings” into your theme proposals somewhere!

Alternatively…and considering that it’s nearly Saturday Night (CDT)…perhaps we should consider “Sober-Up Sunday” for tomorrow’s theme, honoring all of us on the thread who’ve been completely stressed this week!

@GoAskDad…If the news is good, it will ABSOLUTELY be “Wing Wednesday”!! ~:>

I see a lot of SAT data from top scorers, and I too haven’t seen an 800 that didn’t come with a perfect score in all the years I’ve been analyzing data.

@PAMom21 the score was from the on-line scoring provide by the college board via PrepScholar. I was told each practice test had a different curve they did mention a range. Here is what was reported to me:

Practice Test 1 08/24/2014 800 800 800* 2400*
Practice Test 2 09/06/2014 780 780 710* 2270*

Note: Because the SAT score chart may represent a range instead of a specific score, what is shown here are your average expected scores. Your actual score on the SAT may vary as much as 40 points in both directions for each section, meaning your total score may vary as much as 120 points in both directions.

These writing scores were calculated with a presumed essay score. Please check back later for your actual essay score once we have graded it.

Practice Test 1 seemed unbelievable to me, she has only take the SAT once (march of sophomore year) and got a 2150 Critical Reading 760 Mathematics 710 Writing Skills 680 (MC good but tanked the essay)

Wordy Wing Wednesday, as I’m practicing how to work the news into every conversation I have. For example, “Yes, the buffalo wings please, we are celebrating my son’s spicy accomplishment!” LOL!

See now, if my kid had 2400 on a practice test…practice would be over, 8-} ! Wow!!! On the actual test, I would expect perfect scores for writing and math, and not many errors on the CR. My kids have yet to complete an entire practice test. 2150 is excellent for sophomore year.

Practice will be over on Oct 17th ;
- it’s up to her if she wants to retake the SAT (she plans to retake in January because she says she knows she can do better) I only care that she has a good enough PSAT to be safe in TX. Her first choice school (based on intended major, honors program and location) offers huge $$$ for NMF, for what it’s worth, she’ll likely attend with or without NM but it will make things much easier on our family if she makes NM.

I’m so happy for all of you that have crossed this bridge and hope we make to it the other side when our turn comes. Thanks for all the info that has been posted, it’s very helpful for those of us that hope to go through the process next year. So glad to be able to share in your excitement!

Congratulations to all who make NMSF or commended. Keep fingers crossed for those who are on bubbles to SF
Four more days to have cut-off score confirmed on Sept 10.

For those NMSFs who have received the packet, what is the essay prompt for this year?

Can someone who has logged in please confirm that the essay prompt is:
Describe an experience you have had, a person who has influenced you or an obstacle you have overcome.

Thank you! GC told kids to expect a letter in the mail with the next steps (which I know is wrong). I am hoping she figures out the mistake over the weekend.

Here it is:

To help the reviewers get to know you, describe an experience you have had, a person who has influenced you, or an obstacle you have overcome. Explain why this is meaningful to you. Use your own words and limit your response to the space provided.

So, yes, it’s basically what you posted above. Best of luck to your DC!

How many words for the essay?

It’s short. Less than a half of a page. They give very little room.

Here’s last few years cutoffs including what we know so far…
Feel free to make any corrections/updates.

Just in reference to some of the above posts, my child got an 800 on sat math and missed one, but it was 5 years ago. My how time flies - seems like just yesterday! On the previous sitting, he missed 2 and got a 740. too bad he wasn’t as good in the other areas!

@3acoutsmom. ‘Yuinz’ may like to consider Erica Meltzer’s The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar and The Critical Reader. Her - Read. Every. D*!# Word. - did it more than anything IMO. D15 73CR PSAT to 800CR SAT. Best wishes next mo. and to all still waiting.

Stupid NJ school systems being ranked first or near it for years.

Cannot hope that the cutoff will be 212 this year :)

(btw, my son’s friend had a 232 on his PSAT so is in clear, but can’t get above 2200 on the SAT so far and is thus really upset.)

Just a note on the cutoff lists and Illinois; the only data-points we have are one student and one homeschooler both reporting with 220. The 215 is from a second-person account that the scores would drop a point (and he may well have heard that on CC!). So, I’m reluctant to tell a couple of 219’s to pop the corks yet. If any states go up, I’m supposing they would be the ones with declining populations, and that’s us.

For me it’s Still Stupidly Stressed Sunday…

Thank you @GoAskDad and @isaelijohjac for the essay information!
