SE Boarding Schools <= 218, school counselor

Commended (national cutoff) = 201

Hog girl, thank you for keeping us parents focused on being “nice” and " humane" to our children instead of “stressing them out” or “overburdening them” during the college application process. That is a very positive point worth repeating again and again during the next few months. Thank you, it is truly appreciated.

To answer your question, though, “No. Of course not.” I sat with my disappointed young woman and consoled her. You cannot change things past, so cheer up, and move on toward the future - sort of talk followed up by a family dinner out at her favorite restaurant.

The African American father in an earlier posting made an excellent point, though, about making no excuses, taking responsibility for the outcome – whatever it may be – and learning from your mistakes. In subsequent days, my daughter has sometimes tended to mull over the result and her disappointment, particularly as her friend’s successful NMSF results came in. It is in these moments of introspection that we have discussed how things turned out and how to make it different the next time. I think apart from trying to eat well, drink lots of water, get some good sleep, and try to stay generally healthy – which in the end no one can control – we also discussed (in a calm, non-berating manner) how things like consistent repetition through practice exams might have helped her go into autopilot on exam day, even being sick. After all, she came oh-so-close in spite of that.

I’m hoping that a student in WA will come home from school with an update.

Our Principal confirmed for me that the TN cut off was 212 this year if anyone wants to update the list with that. So sorry to those who were hoping for it to drop back to 210 this year but Commended is a great achievement!

@numbersfun That news release was issued a day early. I called NMSC to ask them about it and they were upset. The press was notified today of the Semifinalists for release of the news tomorrow.

@NJMom97, what press release? Is there something out there today with cut-off scores, or only names? Thanks.

^OK, sorry, I see that it was just for MA. Missed that post in the thread.

@GoAskDad I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to get anyone excited. When you click on the link you’ll find it just mentions three students from one HS in MA.

Thank you, @NJMom97, for the information. I wondered how/why it was in the newspaper, mistakes happen. Hope their families saw and saved a copy of the newspaper!

Holy crap, it was 225 in NJ? That’s crazy!
Thank God, I made it with a one-point cushion, haha :)

!?! That 225 looks like a historic high?

225 confirmed NMSF… Might be lower (surely is), but that’s all we have to go on so far… You are not understanding the chart…

Patch (local news sites online) has posted semifinalist announcements on Twitter for many MA towns. Many other assorted schools and newspapers announcing on Twitter. So much for press release held til 9/10. Now I’m even more upset with our principal for insisting she cannot tell students or parents until 9/10!! 15 more hours to wait :(

Ok, SAT question now that we don’t need to confirm. S does not even want to take it. Any way to get my money back? Have a credit for the next kid?

What are you saying about ’ no need to confirm?’

@wrights1994 - <a href=“SAT Refunds – SAT Suite of Assessments | College Board”>The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board; Does he want to take it again just for super score reasons?

@numbersfun - no NMSF, no need to take SAT again to get a confirming score.

So much for the big press release tomorrow.

My daughter just forwarded me an email from school that officially confirms her status as a semifinalist. I guess it’s under the wire, eh?
