Just for clarification- the C in Health was the final grade for a Semester long class, so it shows up in the final grade column.
My daugher meets all the other requirements- has the correct SAT score, completed her NMSC application on time etc. The C in health was the only issue.
Maybe NMSC should just write somewhere in their program, “If you have ever received a C that will appear on your transcript, you need not apply.” One C in Health? I mean, it’s not like it was a math or science class or something. So sorry, @mittentigger, I hope your D has other great options. Unlike NMSC, I doubt that that one C will dog her for the rest of her academic career.
@mittentigger, wow, that just is unbelievable. Of all the stories I’ve read here the past couple of years, 1 C in health is the most over the top. Next we’ll be hearing someone got rejected for a C in gym class. You must not have expected this at all. How is your S/D(?) handling the news? Were you hoping for any large NMF money for college? NMSC, using their sledgehammer instead of a chisel. Jeez. So sorry for you.
@mittentigger this is so upsetting. My husband would have to hold me back if I ever ran into that Health teacher. If you do have the ability to log into your NMSC account and could tell us if anything appears there, it would provide such a great service to those of us that are still waiting. I hate to even ask you
I wonder if they consider the ratio of A’s to B’s, and whether a C with mostly A’s would fare better than a C with mostly B’s. I wonder too how they feel about actual percentages. Our grades are all reported in percentages only, with no letters appearing on the transcript.
It is hard to understand how a single C should be the determining factor when all other criteria are met…Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. However in the end, NMSC is a private corporation and they get to make the rules… Regardless, being a NMSF is an honor and I am a firm believer that good things happen for good people. All these kids that have made it this far have good things in store for them!
A quick question while we are stalking our mailmen. Does anyone know if a student could still qualify for NMS if they have to repeat their entire junior year due to extreme illness? The PSAT was missed for the first junior year, and the parent is wondering if they could qualify during that next junior year.
Yeah, bittersweet for sure. Fingers crossed for you @cshecmia. I do worry about the letters going out in waves, but each day no news continues to be good news.
We’re safe too. Until tomorrow, then. Not sure what day we will really feel safe though? Sat? Mon? I also feel awful for the families who didn’t make it. Hard to feel anything but sad for the whole process when some are let down.
By my own admittedly ridiculous logic. First rejections were reportedly received on the 20th. Mail coming from NMSC in Illinois shouldn’t take longer than 3 days to reach Miami. I’m assuming 1 wave because no one on previous years’ threads have reported any rejections coming beyond that first hell week.
I’m in Ohio, which is in close proximity to Illinois, but our last name is toward the end of the alphabet, so depending on how they send them out, by state or name, and that’s IF they send them out in waves, I’m still unsure. In the past though, it doesn’t seem like it’s been in waves of any kind.
No letter in Kansas City…at least at our house. Neighbors have been kindly checking mail for me, but our mail so often goes elsewhere that I really cannot rest easy in any way.
I do not have the heart to read those past threads re: no-advance letters. Did they really only arrive over the period of a few days? I mean, we would still not be in the clear tomorrow, but I am definitely too old for this and I sure-as-heck cannot take this stress for another week-plus!
