No, I didn’t get an answer, so thank you @SlowLorises. I have a feeling he’s out of luck, but it can’t hurt to call NMS and see. This student may even complete the junior year this year, which would definitely rule out NMS possibilities, but if this entire year is skipped due to illness, NMS might consider it as an exception.

@GoAskDad, that was inspired! I lost it completely at WHO THE HECK LET AN INTERN IN HERE. I am tempted to call the NM people and ask to speak to Smartie-pants Stan.
I would just like to add an additional comment regarding the total “unfairness” of this process:
First, state cut-offs are announced during Candy Corn season. THEN, rejection letters are sent during Conversation Hearts season.
For a stress-eating mom whose kid has ridden the bubble during the entire process, I feel the NMSC timing is patently unfair.
NMSC secretly owned by Jenny Craig or, in my case, Robert Mondavi.

Or maybe whoever it is that makes Sam’s Club’s cheesecakes?
Or by a secret society of dentists.
Or even Girl Scouts. Because it’s Cookie Season.
Last year’s Indiana score was somewhere around 215, so a 220 seems likely to be “safe”.

letters were mailed to the schools yesterday and will be mailed to the students on Feb 9th…I called the National merit offices this am and that is what I was told! smiley: Good luck everyone!!

There was no letter here yesterday.
There HAS to be SOMEONE who got something if letters actually went out on Mon?? My DS’s principal told me this afternoon that there was definitely not a letter in this afternoon’s mail…
Seems like rejection letters went out later than usual this year so possibly confirmations are also going out later. We are waiting on a college decision that was supposed to be received in “early February”. I’m a tax preparer and I think I’m going to tell the IRS that this year my clients’ returns will be finished mid April…seems to work for NMSC and some colleges.
In another one of our 2015 National Merit threads, I recently declared my intent to write a Country Song about this entire, grueling process (even though I don’t actually listen to country music).
So far, all I have is a title, but I think it works. My song will be entitled: “Jimmie, Why Ya Keep Me Waitin’?”
