Oh @albert69 that was awesome! I just know good things are ahead for you!!
I am so glad @albert69 's poem has a happy ending.
Just checked mailbox here in N. Indiana (90 min from Chicago). No news. Patiently waiting…
Homeschooler in Indiana as well–nothing today.
Does anyone remember who the “school listing” choice bit works with NMF? I suppose the time to alter the preferences is now. I seem to recall there is some strategy to where you put down as your first choice.
I have not posted in a long time. My son’s guidance counselor called the semis in today to tell them they would not know until March 9th!!! This prompted me to call National Merit Corp. The very nice lady on the phone confirmed that letters went out Mon 2/2 to principals, and they would be sent out Mon 2/9 to home addresses. She verified that letters went out to those not advancing in Jan. I asked for a date and she indicated she didn’t remember exactly. When I asked if it was the end of Jan., she said it was closer to mid Jan. She also said if notice had not arrived by 2/23, they will answer whether not your child is a finalist on the phone on that day.Hope everyone hears soon! Wishing you all well…
We sure are getting a lot of National Merit Finalist Scholarship information in the last two days from various colleges. Good sign???
Thanks for the info! Wonder why your son’s school is prolonging this???
Wow, thanks so much for the great info, moretolife4! Looks good for everyone!!!
It is very unlike our school to delay which is what prompted my call. I just talked to my son and I actually wonder if his GC is confused. I am going to choose to give the benefit of the doubt. This is a long wait … for us it is Much more about the scholarship at his school of choice than it is about a nice award to list for a college.
Probably meant Feb 9th
No mail here.
I hear you regarding the scholarship. We are in the same boat and anxiously waiting!
I talked to a high school counselor today, and was told that the school had already received rejection letters. Therefore, no news is good news at the moment. HTH.
@TexasMommy90, so your school got copies of rejection letters in January but hasn’t seen acceptance letters thus far? I called our GC this week and was told that nothing could be discussed either way - even if they had information of any kind, they could not discuss it. I couldn’t get a date as to when exactly the info could be discussed/revealed/whatever. The school seemed to be abiding by some sort of release date for info. I could not even get an answer as to whether or not information had been received.
So, they must get the info early to prepare press releases and are bound to not communicate the info until the student would be receiving their letter?
@GoAskDad: That’s all the information I could get out of the counselor. I was surprised that I’d even get that much info. No dates were discussed except that school is still waiting to hear the good news.
To help those who have been following this thread, I’m linking the subsequent thread where our conversation transitions from NMSF Qualifying Scores to NMF Notifications. At this point, I don’t know whether my own DS will be named a NMF, but I just want to say that this NMSF thread has been a tremendous source of information & support for me - so thank you to everyone who took time to post & be part of this journey. Best wishes to all our DCs as they wrap up senior year, plan for college, and look ahead to bright futures!
We now have the finalist certificate in hand. My D and I were called by the principal today and given the certificate. Woo-hoo!!!
Congratulations, @beyondrelief! If you wouldn’t mind, could you post your news on the thread linked here - and also indicate what state your DD’s high school is located in? We’re trying to track all this over there:
