That would be nice Luv, but don’t get discouraged if your mailbox only has junk, because I expect PA to come in after the break (based on last year’s mailings). So, please do post even if it’s “no news is good news”, because then I’ll know when to stop checking for myself.

Once this is over, either way, I will need a referral to a good therapist.

@pasoccermom: NO, NOT THIS YEAR/VERIFIED. So sorry to mislead. This is her score but we haven’t heard. It’s why I’m a freakin’ mess this weekend. I’ve posted a thread on Facebook asking if anyone has heard–perhaps everyone can do the same, then redirect to this site.

Ugh, Tuesday…

Oh, goodness @Grammargal, if I post on Facebook, then my NMSFOCD condition will be known to all my Facebook friends, who know that my actual name is not Barfly!

I rather like “Barfly.” Your name suggests you won’t need a therapist–just a nice Merlot. Peace, everyone.

Please scores, go down or hold even!

It just hit me, that even if we do get some postings today, we probably won’t know much more than ceiling level scores. The actual cuts take multiple postings, or someone with the last posted score less one sharing their disappointment. My point here is that our initial numbers might not actually be as encouraging as I’d hoped.

So what we really need is for homeschoolers whose students are below the bubble to get mail today saying their students are NMSFs. Is that so much to ask for?

Just got the mail–nothing from NM today in Indiana. D has a 220 so I don’t think she is on the bubble–but now I am getting nervous.

While I recognize that the reason for the anxious waiting this weekend is many people here have NM scholarships in mind, but I have a slightly different concern. My kid’s PSAT is right on the bubble for CA, which unfortunately happens to be one of the highest among the states. But his SAT is much much higher than the scaled PSAT. If the unfortunate happens, he will have to put down “National Merit Commended” on the Common App. My question is, will this “cheapen” his application as the colleges might assume you could have a score that’s close to the 202 cutoff? Should I not even mention this “award” in the honors section of the Common App? Of course if I did that, colleges might even assume you have a below 200 PSAT, which could be worse…

Don’t be nervous, @isaelijohjac! NMSC mails it standard, not first class, and in prior years very few people in very few states received letters this early!

Good question! I’ll let the experts advise. As for the NM poster, not even in my wildest nightmares would the scores jump that much! (Last year was a high at 210) Yours is the sure thing. @Barfly, can we add that this poster is also from PA please?

Oh wait, just realized NM was not New Mexico, LOL! But still…Indiana was only 215 last year, so I think you are solid. And if not, we’ll be out with you, and we can have quite the pity party board afterward.

It sounds like @isaelijohjac has a pretty early mail delivery anyway. If they actually send these from Evanston “on Tuesday” that could mean they leave them in the mailbin that night and they are picked up late Wednesday. So not even in the system until Thursday. Or who knows…they could be outsourcing the mailing to Bangalore. Higher than 220 in Indiana would be a tectonic shift & major downer…

I just made a sympathy run to my own mailbox, though we don’t homeschool, so I’m not expecting anything exciting. Six college mailings, two bills, and a Vera Bradley coupon!

(Apologies to those who expect some real data with all this posting activity!)

@golf1688 Im also in your situation. My PSAT score could go either way right now but my SAT score was much higher. Personally, I would not put commended for national merit scholarship down because I think you’re right that schools would assume that you scored close to the commended cutoff.

Also, am I the only high school student on this thread? I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, I’m just very surprised that so many parents are this concerned about NMSF lol.

My sons SAT is so much higher than his psat score! His psat being on the bubble is the worst! He has all the other factors so that is why I am so stressed!

@onlythebest13 It shouldn’t be surprising that many parents are this concerned about NMSF. It could mean that much more is money available to their child, as well as making more schools an option.

@Helimom74 all the same, i wonder why more students aren’t on this thread.

@pasoccermom good luck to you. I know that everything will work out and here’s hoping for lower cutoffs across the board. :)
