***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

It just occurred to me, apparently as I have nothing else to do except check in here (lol), that each of us can reach out to any test prep centers we used to see if they have received scores. I know the head of our test prep center compiles scores and encourages students to report in. I have reached out to him and perhaps others might want to do the same at your respective places. For those of you who self-studied, kudos to you.

@Grammargal, that sound a great idea! I guess test prep centers or private tutors might have some information. Sorry I cannot be helpful here, though, as a self-studied case.

Great idea Grammargal! I juster check our test prep website and they are open tomorrow so I will give them a call.

@Wolverine86, I believe that was the same essay for my class of 2010 son.

On the topic of this “April Verification Letter” that went to the schools (but not to students this year):

DS’s HS claimed no knowledge of it. At DS’s Jr. meeting, I asked his counselor about this letter (she happens to be the counselor who handles all National Merit-related matters). She point-blank said that our HS receives no such letter asking for student verification information…or anything related to National Merit…in April. She said they don’t receive anything until the Semi-Finalists are named. When I told her that the letter might go to the Principal, she said that anything National-Merit-related is automatically directed to her for completion. And she seemed annoyed at me for asking. Of course, she had no idea what DS’s PSAT score was (and it’s one of the highest in his class according to student discussion of the topic), nor did she know DS’s SAT score. When I told her his PSAT score (nicely…I was trying sooooo hard not to be pushy), she just sort of stared at me. When I tried to give her his SAT score report (a good deal higher than his PSAT), she waved it away without looking at the score and said it would show up in his student records online, so we didn’t need to “worry about that now.” Mind you, this was at DS’s One And Only Counselor Meeting During High School to Specifically Discuss College Planning.

Needless to say, I left my DS’s “Junior Year Counselor Meeting” unimpressed…and with a bee in my bonnet!

I probably should stop engaging in idle posting/ranting now. I glanced at last year’s thread and the mods came on at some point to say that the conversation needed to be about scores only. There was a “Discussion Thread” apparently, but perhaps we don’t have one for this year yet? I couldn’t find it, but maybe I need more coffee.

As a homeschooling mom, I received the letter from NMSC in April. No action needed to be taken unless the student had transferred to another school or the spelling of his name was incorrect.

Hoping we all have good news in our mailboxes tomorrow!

Thank you to our homeschoolers on this thread!

As the homeschooler Principal I received one in April as well.

OK, I will stop chattering here in a sec because the mods will surely tell me to Be Quiet soon…but just FYI: I posted a link to this thread over in the Homeschooling section of CC and asked our parent friends there to come over & help us out - for those Homeschoolers who might not be aware of this thread. I may not have needed to do this, since we obviously have some Homeschoolers already on this thread, but I’m pretty much at the No Stone Un-turned Point. Either way, I just want to know.

I’m hoping that come tomorrow, we’ll hear from a few Johnny on the Spot schools as well. My own school knows how anxious I am about this, and just might email right away. Time will tell. After GoAskDad’s post, I did realize that this thread had twice the posts that the 2014 folks had at this stage. Ooops! I’ll have to work tomorrow, but will be sneaking peeks whenever I can.

And of course thank you homeschoolers! I would have paid a few dollars more for my son to take the test, if it came with my own personalized mailing at the bitter end, .

Nope- public high school

onlythebest113 ~ it’s awesome that you are on here and taking charge of your own future! Kudos to you and best wishes! :)

PAmom21 -Please let me know if your school shares anything. Will they tell you the cutoff or just your status? I will be anxiously checking our (homeschool) mailbox tomorrow!

ha ha goaskdad, you are so funny.

If a high school does not have any Semifinalists, would the NMSC have sent a letter on August 26 to the principal? Does the August 26 mailing include the names of commended students or just Semifinalists?

Just called our test prep school and they know less than we do. Cleaning out closets today to occupy myself while we wait.

@NJMom97‌ I was told by NMSC that packets are being sent out on the 26th. Commended certificates later. So, yes, if there are no Semifinalists than the school probably isn’t getting any mail. When I called I did not state that I was a homeschooler so for all she knew I was a guidance counselor for a PS.

I sure hope after all this waiting and checking that there is someone other than me from TN on this thread!!!

@mmfrymire I’m all the way in CA so you’ll probably find out before me. On the positive side, it does seem like last year’s high cutoff scores were an anomaly, so hopefully there will be lower scores across the board this year.

@SparkleMom97‌ Thank you! Best of luck to your students as well. I’m sure we’ll all be fine, regardless of what happens in the next few days.

Joining you both from NY. Grateful for this “support group” at this point! I have reached out to many chanels and haven’t received any info yet. Will share whenever I hear! I need a major drop here in NY.
