Like another poster, I’m wondering about the cutoff for Missouri. Please post if you hear anything.

Any homeschoolers from DC out there? My son is on the bubble and his school hasn’t said a word. They told the kids last year not to bother studying because most of the schools they will apply to do not give scholarships for NMF anyway

Do any of you guys know about any news regarding National Achievement? (Sorry, I know this is national Merit)

CA cutoff is 222 or lower. I know a kid who got in with 222.

@CupertinoRaider – Seriously???

@greatfallsmom –
That’s pretty much exactly what our school said.

Most people at our school think it’s a practice SAT, and have NO idea what else it can offer them.

@emenya, I looked on the National Merit website, and it looks like the National Achievement students are announced about 2 weeks after the National Merit students. So maybe the letters to the principals are also mailed about 2 weeks later. In that case, you may not know anything for a couple more weeks.

Sigh Thanks anyway @Barfly Maybe this information will tame my restlessness. (Hint: It probably won’t ;)

@CupertinoRaider - I’m taking your word for it in my tally. (Users be advised!) This would be a point drop in CA and hence a big deal, so hope you’re right!

Commended (national cutoff) = 201

Not that this is very helpful, but I’m pretty sure there was a 229 letter from Washington somewhere WAY back there. I’m still “playing at home”, LOL!

(Found it, post 1500 from a principal…229 in WA)

Ate you sure Cupertino? Can you tell us where you got the info? From school or a letter? If so you just made my day!!! Yahoo!!

@brazilnut My kids high school in CA informed them. And one of the kids who had a 222 said he received the email. So, I have no way to confirm it except his word. Please do confirm if you get in. Until then it’s hearsay.

Wow, you go to a meeting for a couple of hours and you miss everything! Congratulations to all of you who have received good news! It’s so nice to hear all this good news and relief. To those who just missed, I know it’s frustrating and disappointing and I’m sorry it didn’t work out yet but it will all work out. There are scholarships out there for commended and also for high SAT scores and also for high achievement generally. I’ve read so many stories from parents whose kids missed it and then went on to get huge merit awards.

There’s no news from D’s high school in CA today as far as I can tell. She sent me a text on an unrelated issue and I think she would have mentioned it if there had been any information. She’s not on the bubble so I am just waiting for the official notification and paperwork to show up. That Carleton postcard did not find its way into our mailbox by the way so don’t get worried if you didn’t see it.

Thanks Cupertino. You have given me hope.

Anyone from Georgia hanging around? My school is notoriously slow with notifying students of anything so i’m still holding on to hope.

We have a 216 and have heard nothing… But neither has classmate that has a 223:)

If CA, the largest sample set w 15% of the US population, is down a point, then that bodes a similar drop across the nation.

Any news from NJ? No word from my daughter’s school. Hoping for at least a one point drop. Eight more days until Sept. 10 but I don’t want to wait that long!

That seems to correlate with the 2 point drop in the commended score. Good news for many of us.

@GMTplus7, it looks like Texas, another huge sample set, is also down at least a point.
