***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

@Barfly I just gave his name and our address…they pulled it up right away.

It’s the state you go to school in. We live in VA, but my son goes to school in DC, so unfortunately he has the highest cut off. :(

@Calculemus‌ - yes I am here in IL with 220 waiting for school - should be safe, but it is always good to know for sure. Back in April they gathered the kids -14 of them (same number as last year, they were told) to tell that they were in that 50,000 number. Last year there were 3 NMSF. So I am waiting with all of you that didn’t hear anything yet.

SE Boarding Schools <= 218, school counselor

Commended (national cutoff) = 201

Still waiting to hear from anyone who got results in NJ… Please?

Awake and ready to hear news from CA! Anyone with a score lower than confirmed 223 which equals same number as last year? Hoping for a similar drop as other states.

@celesteroberts‌ the info for Maryland came from the school Principal. He game my son and one of his friends the news and the letter this am.

@IrishDadMD, did the principal say MD cut off was 229 or your son got 229 and got in? there is a big difference.

I just called NMSC and confirmed they got my son’s SAT score so thanks to whoever recommended that. And while I had her on the phone I asked if my son needed to make a certain GPA for finalist. She first just read what they say on the website. I then asked her what happens if my son doesn’t get all A’s. She said they need to see A’s and B’s. Just thought I’d pass that along.

@nomatterwhat‌ I understand that absolutely. Like I said before, that’s higher than last year, I was just trying to put out there that the info is available to Maryland schools and hopefully we’ll see more numbers today. To clarify–the principal did not tell him the cutoff in Maryland was 229, just that he made NMSF in Maryland.

Thank you IrishDadMD, because I got 225. :p

Haven’t seen any scores posted for New England states - are they sent out in regional batches? My twins scored 1 and 2 points below the cutoff for last year, but 1 and 2 above the previous cutoff. Edge of my seat here!

I’m an Illinois Mom. I’ve been checking here all week with nothing to report.

I would not pay any attention to a score above 224. Those are irrelevant for cut offs.

Does anyone else find it remarkable that >90% of high-PSAT scorers get all As and Bs (or at most one or two Cs)?

It is interesting that grades-across-the-board correlate with test scores so uniformly. Especially since we know that grading can vary widely between HSs (i.e., not all As are created equally). Sets me musing about grade inflation and whether that affects NMSC’s assessment of who advances.

New here and wondering about the cutoff for Maryland. Does anyone else feel irritated with this process? I am pretty sure that in MD my son’s score (210) wont qualify for the SF but he is commended. The irritating thing is that the cutoff for the SAT is 1960 for SF but the cutoff for the PSAT for SF is around 228 usually in MD. My son scored 2280 on the real SAT and wont be a SF but someone who scored a 228 on the PSAT a shorter test and gets a 1960 on the bigger test will be a SF. Doesn’t seem like that makes sense. I can only hope that his scores on the actual SAT and ACT will help with some scholarship money. Good luck to all of you.
Is there a list of commended students or do I have to call (where to call?) to be sure we can put “commended” on his college Apps. Thanks!

I have 225 for PSAT and 2300 for the SAT for Maryland. I wish I had 230 for the PSAT but oh well.

Yes I definitely saw many people, esp. those go went to top colleges, put “commended” in their college apps.

Was just informed I’m a NMSF with 212 in MO. Cutoff is <=212.

Texas cutoff = 218. Confirmed by HS… students will be notified by Sept 10th is what they said, but they did confirm the cutoff.

A 224 on the PSAT was the highest cutoff in HISTORY for any state, any year… Because this seems to be a lower threshold year, 224 and above is 99.9999% safe for any state… 223 is probably safe anywhere as well, but let’s see first.
