@BB1945, The commended score is at (or above) 201, so your S with a score of 210 is definitely commended.

Congratulations to our student @Weltschmerz47 on being named NMSF! @Weltschmerz47, I am very interested in MO (also KS), as you know. Did your school give you any clue re: whether or not the cut-off was below 212, or at 212? Any info would be very helpful. Again, I’m really happy for you!!

And congratulations to all our new NMSFs today! Wonderful news!!

Yes thank you! He did get informed of that by the School in April. I just get confused as to why the cutoff is different in each state since the tests are all the same. Seems that it should just be a straight percentage but oh well. It is disappointing but I will know for the second kid that the PSAT is what really matters. She is a Sophomore so will focus on that next year after we get the Sophomore score! Good luck everyone!

Our student has a 223 which is great considering the qualifying scores reported yesterday for our state are much lower, but we haven’t heard anything official so not feeling comfortable celebrating just yet. Congratulations to everyone!

It is surprising for me that some school did share the information in April-- whether the students were on the list of potential SF and commended students. When I contacted with the GC who had been very responsive and caring (I thought) in April, I only heard that he did not know anything about it, which is totally doesn’t make sense to me. The school usually have around 20 SF and maybe much more commended students, still the staffs are so ignorant… I guess they would sit on it until Sep 10th, so I finally sent an email to the principal to see the response. Very typical gigantic public school!

Whoever is updating the chart of scores, take Alabama down a notch. It is at most 208 NOT 209.

@mihcal, that is a good point. I guess it goes to the general grade inflation across most U.S. high schools? I wonder if there is some flexibility at specialized schools where the average gpa is much lower. I know some kids who didn’t make it–really, really smart but not engaged students–and some who did make it with a C or two in academic subjects.

@nomatterwhat, I have some reassuring news for you. You are NMSF no matter what (sorry, couldn’t resist). And getting 230 on the PSAT doesn’t have any impact on anything. No one knows the PSAT score and no one cares if it’s 212 or 226 or 240. It is irrelevant. All that matters is the commended/SF/F/Scholar designation. So congratulations!

I’m in with a 220 in CT! I’ve been a lurker here for a while but figured I’d contribute since these threads are so helpful. Very happy the cutoff went down at least a point!

Congratulations, @justkt9314!! Your post will be very helpful to others and it was considerate of you to take the time to register on CC & update the thread. To confirm, do you know that 220 is the actual cut-off for CT? Did your school tell you that? Others may pose that question so I thought I’d ask.

Best wishes in your senior year!

Does anyone else wonder if the folks at NMSC sit around in the afternoon - with some bags of microwave popcorn - and watch our thread expand? I bet they have it up on a smartboard in the break-room.

And, on a related topic: For those of you who have recently called NMSC, do you just dial the # on their website and start asking questions of the poor soul who answers the phone? (I bet that person doesn’t get to watch us in the break-room.) I’ve decided to call them today, since our high school says they have no information whatsoever, nor any idea of when the info will appear. So I’d like some clarification…

Please Washington State someone post, I’m bleeding internally waiting to hear anything. And not 229! Thank you Washington State and everyone else. Good Luck!

What’s with Alabama? What is the post # that says 208? I’ll put it up with CT and MO, but I don’t know where to look.

@GoAskDad, you just made my day with that post. OMG, I am going to treasure that visual of the NMSC people reading our thread and eating popcorn in the break room.

Please let us know what they tell you! I am tempted to call today just to see if they will tell me if they’ve got D’s confirming SAT score matched up to her name.

I just threw it up anyway. I feel like I know @Luvmygirls after all these months, and her sources can be trusted,
.

@3girls3cats, I just called myself. I was put on hold, and figured I’d be there for hours, but it was only a few seconds. I was able to confirm my son’s SAT scores were attached to his file. Yippee! I also asked (because I’m OCD) about the 1960, and he confirmed that was the cut.

@GoAskDad…You can just call the (847) 866-5100 number and let them know you have a question regarding “XXXX”. They’ll transfer you to the Scholarship department (IIRC) and they’ll answer your question…or not. 8-}

I spoke to someone there earlier and confirmed a couple things. Someone did post earlier in the thread that the “confirming score” for this year’s kids is again 1960 but I asked again just to be sure and they did confirm that. I also asked if, starting Sep 10th, they would give us the login info for our kids to create their accounts to complete the student portion of the package. They will not. The students will have to get the letter from their school in order to get their login info.

In case anyone cares about particular details…the school principal receives one letter from NMSC with principal’s login information. Once the principal logs in using that info, they can then generate the individual Semifinalist letters for however many SFs they have that year. So there’s no “big packet of letters” that arrives at a particular school…it’s just one envelope for the principal and the progression then depends on the principal opening it, interpreting it PROPERLY, printing out the SF letters, then following whatever procedure they use to get those letters to the students.

This is a new poster, not the same. It’s Luvmy3girls with one post. I thought she was referring to some earlier post I missed. @luvmy3girls, can you please provide more info about how you know Alabama is not higher than 208?

There are so many different phone numbers on the College Board website… Can someone tell me a good # to use to call and verify that the SAT scores made it there?

Ah, interesting! Thanks for sharing @Wolverine86.

@Barfly, if you read the post above me (Wolverine’s, now 3 posts up), you can surely appreciate my paranoia. (Thankfully we now have a new principal, LOL!!!)
