**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I was surprised I got into michigan and not psu hahâŠbut it wasnât my top pick anyway so Iâm fine I honestly wonder if going over the word count on my essays affected anything. hahahaha ah well. (honestly I just copied and pasted my commonapp essay into there.) Iâm actually glad I got rejected as thatâs just one college crossed off my decision list! good luck everyone

Iâm extremely surprised you were rejected with such a great gpa and good SAT score. Did you at least get offered admission to a branch or were you completely rejected? This really worries me, because my stats are lower than yours. It really seems like I donât stand a chance. :(

I think nursing must be a tough program to get into-- my d also got turned down for her major today(graphic design). Your stats are excellent. PSU offered to evaluate her for an alternative choice major, but she must now make that request in writing. She hasnât quite decided if sheâll do so.

This is what my mypennstate app status said:
"We are unable to offer you admission at this time. If you would like to explore other options, please send us an email at admissions@psu.edu. Thank you for applying to Penn State. "
not really sure if thats a deferral or rejection⊠haha my mom asked if she should say congratulations for finally getting rejected from somewhere. I had a pretty good streak going I wouldnât worry much unless you applied for nursing also. nursing pretty much fills up as they go (since psu is rolling) so I should have applied earlier if I had really wanted psu. I didnât put down any satellite campuses. I just realized Iâm legacy too, as my dad got either his bachelors or masters at psu and half my cousins go there.
Donât feel bad for me at all. haha Iâve got plenty of other options!

crider, I think more people are just worried that you had some pretty good stats and got rejected. But yeah, I think nursing is a very small program, so once it fills theres not much they can do.

Nursing is really hard to get into anywhere, especially PSU. If you didnât apply by the deadline, your chances are shot. I believe they only let in 95 kids: 65 to UP and 30 to satellites (they only stay at the satellite for 1 year though, not the usual 2). I also think I recall them telling me they get about 1,000 applicants for nursing ( I could be wrong though). They wait till mid/end of January to accept people (the ones that made it in by deadline) since the major is so competitive.

So that explains how someone with great stats could get rejected.

@crider â sounds like you have some other attractive options, so will you just forget about PSU? Looks like my D will send along a second choice major this week. They promised us on the phone that she was definitely still eligible for UP, and they would get back to us quickly â encouraging. However, D is not so excited now that sheâs not into her 1st choice major. She got accepted at 2nd choice last week, and Iâm really pushing for that school, which is another great state flagship (and about $10k less per year!)

@ crider - where else were you accepted? I was deferred from Michigan and waiting to hear from Penn State. Accepted to Kelley business at Indiana.
