Class of 2015

imagep: I hope your son’s roommates respond, because the person I’m supposed to be in a suite with hasn’t yet and it’s been almost a week since both me and the other person in our suite sent messages. Thankfully I requested a specific roommate and we got each other.

He did not get an email. I just happened to check vip just because someone brought it up here.

My son will be going to USC this fall. He was assigned to Bates House–a little bummed for a few minutes because it’s so far away from everything, but now he’s just fine with it. He’s been meeting people on the facebook pages and has sent a message to his roommate but hasn’t heard back yet. Did you get your assignment yet AUGirl?

I’m still without an assignment. I have orientation on Wednesday, so I should hear by then, but I am a little frustrated. My top choice is Maxcy and they have been placing some people in Maxcy who didn’t even put it on their list, and there are only 120 spots for freshmen due to the International Program… So yeah. haha. But hopefully I’ll know soon. If I get Bates, I’ll be bummed, but I’ll just make the best of whatever I get. :)

So. I went to Orientation on Wednesday.

I arrived on Tuesday at about 2:30 and I checked in at Preston, since I was staying there over night. I went and took my placement test at 3:00. I ended up scoring an F4, so I had to stay for additional testing. I finished that at about 4:45. Once I was done with that, I checked my phone, and I finally got my housing assignment. I’ll be in Maxcy. :)

I went back to Preston and met a couple of people. We ended up going down to the Ice Cream social at the Strom and that was a lot of fun. Afterwords, we went back to Preston and played boardgames and got to know one another until about midnight. They also told us that as long as we wore a housing t-shirt (they were free t-shirts available in the lobby) and turned in a Housing Comment card, then we would get Guaranteed Housing sophomore year. So me and a couple of others did that. So I hope that they’ll honor that and give us guaranteed housing next year.

Orientation itself was a lot of information. I felt like I was basically the only person there without a parent, but I didn’t feel very left out, because we weren’t with the parents for the majority of the time and everyone was still really open with speaking to one another and I had a friend from school and some friends that I had made the night before to talk to.

It was a very successful day. I met with my advisor and I really like her. We scheduled our classes. I ended up with no afternoon classes, so I’m very happy with my schedule. We picked up our Carolina Cards, which when you do, they tell you not to bite or chew on it…

Anyways, while we were picking up our cards, one girl was checking to see what her housing assignment was and I asked her what her dorm was and she said “Maxcy” and I said “Me too. What’s your dorm?” and she said that she didn’t know and that she was looking it up. I kind of joked that maybe we were roommates, but then I looked and I was like, “Wait! That’s my assignment! We’re roommates!” It was a very weird experience, but yes. I randomly ran into my roommate and with a class as large as ours, the chances of that happening are so small that I’m still surprised it happened. XD

I was checking for my final placement scores in French yesterday and found out that I scored an F6 on a scale of 7, so I placed into 300-level French, so I’ll be taking French 309 this year. I’m kind of hoping that I won’t be the only freshman in the class. XD But 309, 310, and 311 are the required courses for a French major, so it’ll make it easier for me to double major, so I’m happy.

Anyways, I basically fell in love with USC all over again.

I also found out that all of the international students are living in Maxcy this year and that the Spanish House will be on my floor. This will be the last year that it’s a freshman dorm. Next year, they’re planning on moving the French House there as well, so it’ll be a completely international dorm.

My daughter has orientation June28. She is from NC attending USC in the Fall. Her friend applied for Capstone scholar and is in there and put my daughter (and vice versa) as a roomate pick. My daughter still has no assignment and did not apply as a Capstone scholar but was told in March she could still be placed as a room mate if a scholar requested her.Is there a chance Capstone will open up space by her orientation date? Her friend is assigned to capstone but wants to change to any dorm to be my daughter’s room mate. I feel bad because she did apply to be a Capstone scholar so should stay there however she is not at all happy with the person she was assigned and my daughter as I said isn’t assigned yet. Any advice appreciated. I told them at this point if she gave up her slot at Capstone is there any guarantee they would be together in another dorm at this late date? Please advise. Monday is when she is planning to ask to be removed from Capstone in order to be my daughter’s roomie but should they both wait til move in and request a change??.

You can request a room change anytime between now and August 5. Once August 5 hits you can’t change until August 26 again, so I wouldn’t wait until they actually move in.

I’ve been told that once July gets here, they’re going to post a list of empty rooms that students can move in.

Also, once your daughter gets her assignment, she could ask her roommate if she would like to switch to Capstone and your daughter’s friend and her roommate could switch places. That probably would be the easiest thing to do.

My roommate for Orientation requested a Capstone roommate and was told the same thing that you were, and her friend was placed in Capstone, while she was placed in Preston. I’ve heard that Capstone is basically filled to capacity, so this has been pretty common this year apparently.

Trojan love I just Notice your post in South Carolina’s CC but your link is to housing in California. I didn’t want you to not get any responses
