Class of 2015

AU girl, since you are in state, and obviously you know a lot more about the southern schools than we do from up north, can you shed some light on them? Like what’s the difference between USC (not in California) and Clemson and CoC. Do you know how they compare to Elon? Sorry to ask you to be a college guidance counselor, but you seem to know a lot, and it’s hard to make a decision from a distance, especially when you don’t know a lot of kids who have gone to schools in the south.
Thanks  Also if you are wondering why I applied in the south if I don’t really know the schools so well, I really wanted warm weather and I want to get away from where all my siblings go…to high powered NE schools…

from Delaware

SAT-1840
ACT-29
GPA-3.09
Weighted-4.30

USC is definitely my first choice…GO *****!

wow i love how they just starred c ocks…

^^^lol…

Again no letter…

ayy i got in yesterday! im from ny and im definitely going to usc. soo pumpeddd

Matt;

Did you apply by the Nov 15 deadline? If not, you probably won’t hear yet.

In! I think its my first choice but I got a big scholarship at a smaller school just outside of New York! GPA 4.0 SAT 1770 from New Hampshire.

Got accepted on Monday in NJ, 4.7 W GPA and 2140 SAT. I’m hoping I’ll get some serious scholarship consideration. Don’t really know much about USC, got a letter from them earlier this year that encouraged me to apply so I did. If anyone knows anything about it please let me know.

VAMom…

I submitted everything in September. Also, they called me on 12/2 asking me about my tour and at the end they said “You should receive your decision in the mail soon.” I don’t understand the delay, if I don’t get it tomorrow I think I am going to call them.

It is my understanding that they’ll continue to send out letters all the way through Friday so it could be as late as Monday or Tuesday before you receive your letter. That’s what they keep saying over and over again anyways.

As for the differences between schools… Yeah. I know the differences. haha

The biggest rivalry in South Carolina is DEFINITELY Clemson or Carolina. I mean… it’s just a part of the culture here. Even people who have nothing to do with either college are on one side or the other. There’s no in-between. XD My cousin is a Clemson fan even though no one in my family has ever gone there. (Actually… most people in her/my family haven’t gone to college. We had a grandfather who did, but that’s about it.)

People are brought up in this rivalry, so a lot of people actually won’t apply to one school or the other simply because they’ve always been on that side. haha. So. It’s a big deal. But that’s just a basic outline of culture.

School-wise:
Carolina is the biggest school. It’s in a large city, Columbia. At one time the Columbia area was the largest part of the state, but now the upstate (where I live) is the largest part of the state, though Columbia might still be the largest city in the state-I’m not sure. Campus is right by the state house. I went to Girl’s State this summer and we literally walked from the steps at the state house to the horse shoe at USC.

USC is known to be easier to get into than Clemson. I think that Greek Life is relatively present at USC (especially if you want it to be… they have really nice greek housing.) I think the best program at USC right now is the International Business program. I’ve heard that it’s ranked number 1 in the country… not sure about that.

Clemson is a bit smaller with about 15000 students. It’s in a small town. I hate that area, because there’s not much to do. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere. XD You have Easley that’s nearby… but there’s not much in Easley. I think that I’ve heard a lot of Clemson kids go to Greenville on the weekends. Greenville’s a really cool place. Big city with a nice downtown… Clemson is in the upstate and the upstate is rapidly growing.

CofC is even smaller with 10000 students. It’s in Charleston, which is on the beach… and it’s a major party school. At least that’s the reputation. I tend to think that that’s true, because most of the people who I know who chose to go there went there for that reason. XD I think it’s a pretty decent school if you can get away from that. It should be noted, that with all my time living here, my cousin is the only person I know to have gone there and graduated. XD

I don’t know much about Elon… That’s a top choice for several of my friends though.

It’s hard to give a generalization about the differences. haha. But if you have any specific questions, then I can try to answer them. Obviously, I’m biased towards USC.

As for the weather… We’ve had below freezing for the past couple of days now. Brrrrrr. I. hate. the. cold. The high was 31 today and it was colder yesterday. Whenever it snows or ices, you will NOT have classes. I have seen school canceled for a THREAT of snow before. It only takes about 1/4 an inch for school to be at least delayed and it’s normally canceled at that point. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to school with white stuff on the ground. haha. So that’s nice. Umm… ice storms suck here. Power can go down for a few weeks…

Speaking of which… we’re expecting ice on Thursday, so I’m betting school will be canceled and this will make many of my classmates angry, because they’ll be expected to come in on Friday for exams. (Last exams are on Thursday… but if school gets canceled… then they have to come in on Friday instead. XD) My last exam is tomorrow morning, so I don’t have that problem. lol

STILL no response…

Should I be worried?

It’s only Wednesday. They’re supposed to send responses through Friday. It could be Tuesday before you find out.

USC admissions said that they sent my letter out on friday… STILL nothing…

@RL2011

Did you call them?

yepp… so annoying…

reason is that i live in massachusetts but my mom lives in south carolina and is a resident and i am a dependent on her… so im a resident but my mail is being sent there and forwarded here so it is taking extra long…

did u get your acceptance letter by a standard mailman or UPS or FEDEX?

What number did you call and what did you say?

I am from NY and don’t have any of that re-directing mail stuff and STILL have not got mine.

the number is admissions and its 803-777-7700

just say you havent gotten your decision letter yet and you wanna know if it was mailed or not

I got mine by Regular mail. i hope you get your letter soon.

RL2011, Could they not tell you if you were accepted or not? Do you have to wait for the letter to know?

Son got acceptance package today. Came by regular mail. Live in south, but not in S. Carolina.
