i got into c of c and university of alabama… staying in south carolina is ideal for me. what about you matt?

Does anyone have any idea what the tuition hike will be this upcoming year? I read that two years ago it was only like 3.8%, but that last year it was more like 6-7%.

And does anyone know when we’ll find out what tuition will be?

I’m going to be relying primarily on the LIFE scholarship and the Pell Grant… but that’ll only be enough for tuition. =/

And will we get definitive costs for housing/dining once its available for sign up?

I’ve only heard from USC so far and I got in. I can’t believe how long it is taking for you to receive your letter but if you got into Alabama & Charleston I am sure you’ll get into USC.

Accepted on Monday to the sports management program. not one of my top choices though.
From NJ
GPA: 101.6 weighted (out of 100)
SAT: 1210/1830
ACT: 28
Rank: 9/222

blaaa i got deferred… whateverrrr

Dammnnn, RL, what were your stats?

Aweeee.

Well that doesn’t really mean anything. A majority who apply early are deferred. But then there’s a 64% acceptance rate, so a majority of deferred get in.

I hope you get in later. =)

And why so many from Jersey?

what do you mean jersey?

im from massachusetts but my parents have a home outside of charleston so i love south carolina.

and my stats are alright… i have like a 3.4 unweighted gpa and i got a 1540 on the SAT’s… 1040 on just math and reading.

its understandable why i didnt get in. i mean it was my first choice but im already over it haha if i get in, in march, then ill head over to the school again for one more look then make my decision

Sorry. I didn’t mean you. Someone else said they were from New Jersey and that seems to be a popular place for oos students.

3.4 unweighted? That’s a whole .5 higher than me. XD

Charleston’s a really cool place. My aunt lives there and it’s nice and easy to get to from where I live. (Straight 3 hour drive down the interstate). I’ve gone there for day trips before.

I’m excited about going to USC next year though, because it’s also a straight drive to Charleston, but it’s only 90 minutes away. Easy fun Saturday. haha.

You said you got into CofC… Is that a top choice for you? I can’t help but laugh whenever I hear someone’s going to CofC simply because of its reputation. XD But I mean it’s a decent school. =)

usc was my top but not anymore. im putting my money down on charleston this week. what reputation have you heard?

Two words: Party School.

I’ve had friends whose parents literally begged them not to apply to CofC because of its reputation as a party school. I only know one person who went down there and actually graduated.

My parents haven’t really said anything about me applying to CofC, but that’s probably because I haven’t mentioned it. I’m not sure how my parents would view me going there, if I decided that was my first choice. But I haven’t even applied there. So yeah. A couple of kids went there last year from my school on the Fellows scholarship, so I mean, it does have good programs.

On Google:
“College of Charleston
Despite its reputation as a party school, College of Charleston is a surprisingly well-balanced college.”

And look on college ******* for night-life.

I’d be willing to bet more in-state kids go there for that reason than out-of-state kids. But I definitely know several who went there just because of its rep.

AUGirl, Can’t quite understand your continued references about CofC’s reputation. Do you seriously think that USC has a cleaner, more wholesome reputation? Not sure that you are actually a prospective college student. But if so, this is not the place to sling mud about competitive schools. The differences between USC and CofC are huge and your remarks are not useful nor helpful.

Sorry not trying to mudsling the school at all.

I am in fact a prospective college student. I even posted a picture of my acceptance letter on this thread.

I was just commenting on the local opinion, but like I said, it’s a good school.

However, as a local SC resident who has lived here my entire life, quite literally, I only know one person who has gone to CofC and graduated. I know plenty of people who went to Clemson and USC (even though I honestly am not a fan of Clemson at all) who graduated.

Sorry for my continued reference, I’m not trying to sling the school in the least bit. Looking back, I can see how it seems like that was my intention. However, I have absolutely no reason to sling the school. I have nothing against the school except for having to sit through a six hour graduation when I was younger (when my cousin graduated from there-She’s the only person I know who did). I’ll try not to refer to it anymore.

I’m not sure if you are a south carolinian or not, but I can say that USC and Clemson both do not have the same reputation of party schools as CofC, whether they deserve it or not is a completely different story.

And alas, I see that my comments about it being a party school aren’t extremely helpful, but I just find it interesting how many out-of-state students seem to call it a good school, when the local reputation is that it’s a party school. This makes me think that the local reputation is probably inaccurate as CofC has good rankings elsewhere.

Again. Didn’t mean to slash the school and I’m sorry if I offended anyone.

As I said, several students from my school decided to attend there this year and were actually palmetto fellows, which is the highest scholarships awarded by the state. No one in the past four years, on the other hand, has decided to go onto USC from my school.

pretty sure every school is a party school… and i chose c of c instead of waiting from usc because it ranked higher academically then a state university. not to mention its right next to MUSC… which will bring me connections. also, i am jewish and charleston is very jewish which a like… charleston is also less expensive AND Charleston, sc has a reputation of being the “north of the south” which would be a good adjustment for me being from MA, in the middle of boston and nyc. no need to bash other schools. thanks for your opinion…

peace USC!

theres actually a good number of people from my school in md that applied and got in there…5 i can think of off the top of my head (other than me) which is a weirdly high number…not sure about their stats but id guess theyre all in the top 20% at the very least

does anyone know when honors college/mcnairs info will be mailed out?
i was accepted into the university last week but im nervous about honors college. they boast an avg 1450 SAT and 4.5 gpa. I have a 1430/2140 and a 4.3 weighted gpa. =/

^If you don’t get Honors, you’d definitely get Capstone.

But they said they’ll send those out by February I think.

I’m not sure, because I didn’t apply for the Honors College.

But you’re barely below the average and there’s 49% below the average, so don’t be too nervous! =)

do you know how they weight their gpa? is it a 5 point scale? because mine is a 4 point scale.

Has anyone sent their deposit in?

AU girl, I have found your comparisons of CoC and USC very helpful. Interestingly, I am from Philadelphia and everyone here LOVES CoC and describes USC (when they don’t mistake it for University of Southern California which they almost always do) as VERY southern…a place where girls spend a lot of time on their makeup and hair. My mother is pushing for CoC because everyone here thinks it’s great. I didn’t particularly like it and would go to USC over this school. I’m still waiting to hear from Clemson though (and a couple of other schools). After I hear, I’ll go visit and see which one feels more like I fit in.
