Class of 2018 Decisions

I haven’t heard back. I applied October 26th, and my app was marked complete October 30th or 31st. I’m from Missouri. I feel like I might be getting deferred, though.

It may be that Pitt is holding off on admitting students with stats in the middle range until they get all the upper range students who are going to apply admitted. They have only so many beds, after all. It seems this way anyway, that the people with the highest stats get admitted quickly and that leaves most of us waiting. I could of course be wrong about this.

Why do we care about Pitt on this thread?

My D has pretty high stats and she hasn’t received word yet.

oops, fc. Tulane.

My son has pretty high stats too, no response yet (counselor: Rachael Thompson).

My D received her acceptance letter today with $20K scholarship. Submitted on 11/14, Gibson showed complete on 11/15. We are in Northern CA. She is ecstatic!!!

Just a piece of advice from someone who was already accepted with “average” stats:

I reached out to my admissions rep with very specific and insightful questions regarding the major I’m interested in (which also happened to be the major she studied at Tulane) and only an hour or two after her response, I was accepted. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but I wasn’t sure I’d be accepted to Tulane this early in the game.

So, I suggest reaching out to your representative with some kind of question that shows your genuine interest and curiosity in the school. It can’t hurt, right? :)

Holy **** just found out I got an $80,000 scholarship!!! the academic achievement award.

…I had like a 3.3 UW GPA/ 32 ACT.

what?

My thing says: “Your application is complete and is awaiting review. The Admission Committee is working to render your decision as quickly as possible. If you have questions regarding your status, please call the Undergraduate Admission Office at 800-873-WAVE (9283)”
I applied around 11/7, and I am so nervous
i have a 3.1 uw GPA (but all A’s and 2 B+'s this year) and 2030 SAT (1360) as well as 160 hours of community service
i also take honors classes at a very competitive dual curriculum high school in connecticut
i visited campus and attended 2 information sessions and I’m freaking out!!! i feel like I’m going to be rejected or deferred but how long does it take until I find out?

Tyrtle – people posting on here are not a representative sampling and it is easy to lose perspective. You “only” have an ACT 32 composite. That’s like 98th percentile for crying out loud…

^^^Exactly. Plus you (tyrtle) have a much higher weighted GPA than UW (I looked at your other thread posting), so clearly you have taken a fairly challenging schedule. And it isn’t all stats. You speak several languages, you could possibly compete in track, etc. This is Tulane’s way of telling you that they want you to attend there instead of Emory, although since you applied ED, if they take you I guess that is where you are going. But in general, that is the purpose of these merit scholarships. To reward the hard work and talent you have shown already, and to sway you to Tulane.

Curious what is meant by “people posting on here are not a representative sample?”

Um, we tend to be a self-selected group of parents concerned about their children’s education a bit more than average. Our children, including the ones on here, tend to do better in high school than the national average, or even the average of those who attend college. You’ll hear people lamenting that their child’s or their own SAT/ACT is only in the top 3% nationally–because that isn’t very high when the goal is “certain” admission at Yale for many such people. I mean, who else but us dedicates this much time to learning everything they can about potential schools? Many people are more laissez-faire than we are; the rest are just plain too tired.

LOL, well put jkeil. Exactly so. When the national average for SAT math is 514 and for CR 496 [Average SAT Scores - SAT Reasoning Test](Understanding SAT Scores – SAT Suite | College Board) it is easy to see that the people on CC are well, well above that. The people on here are highly skewed towards top performers.

Another indicator of that is, if you look at all schools on CC, there tends to be far more activity on the forums of the most competitive schools, and less activity for the schools that are not as selective. At least that is how it looks to me in a random but certainly incomplete sampling.

Honestly speaking: if Tulane doesn’t give us an admissions decision before December 15th does that mean we’re certainly denied or deferred?

Or in previous years have people actually gotten acceptances on December 15th exactly?

If you applied EA or SCEA, you will hear by Dec. 15. That could still be an acceptance, although most will be deferrals by that point.

Not to be disheartening, but I heard back in 4 days. Most of my friends heard back within 1-2 weeks. If you haven’t heard back within 3 weeks, either your application was missing something…or…you are probably going to be deferred/denied

Last year, my D didn’t get her acceptance until Dec 15 and then a few days later got the letter with the Founders scholarship (22k). Be patient and hope for the best!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

That being said, I hope I get accepted. I’ve been waiting a while but I know my stats are good and I’ve shown plenty of demonstrated interest. Maybe I’ll repost them later to get better input on what my chances are
