DS says school gave him a letter today, but he left it at school!!! What am I going to do with this kid? He’s promising he’ll bring it home tomorrow.
He also said his school had 9 semifinalists (out of about 695 in his class)

Here is the list for south-central, southwestern Wisconsin, including Dane County: https://madison.com/wsj/news/local/education/local_schools/madison-west-leads-state-with-national-merit-scholarship-semifinalists/article_24438836-201f-5f71-8f45-41e1d38c7be8.html
Missouri?
@Houston1021 Thanks for the link! Our school stayed about this year with 28 out a class size of 634 - not bad for a public, non-magnet school.
I thought ours was 22/700 but the list was published today and the school had 26. Public school here as well.
7 here out of 500. our public school is the only school in the county that has NMF every year. usually 7-9 kids.
There is another thread that has some states / metro areas with names. Here is a link to the latest post: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/21703678/#Comment_21703678
Got s laugh our district released the list in Illinois. Every school had someone on the list except my daughters schools. Daughter is class of 2020 though. She did know someone though.
couple of questions regarding the application,
Do you send all SAT scores to National Merit or use score choice and send only general SAT scores (and not subject SAT)?
Should FAFSA forms be completed by October 1st?
You can send all scores NM people will only look at the highest single score (they don’t super score) National Merit doesn’t require FAFSA.
ok, my kid took the SAT on Oct 1 2016. (fall before sophomore year). In college board’s dashboard, her score report says that SAT was taken on Sep 30 2016. Will that be a problem for Nmf qualification? On the score report that was sent to NMSC, it lists that the SAT was taken on Oct 1.
@Ranipetgirl it’s really weird that the score report would have the wrong day but my son’s March 2018 SAT is off by a day as well. Not sure why CB is messing up there.
You should call NMSC and make sure there’s no confusion from their end. Clearly your DC is within the window (Oct. 2016 - Dec. 2018) so hopefully will get credit for that.
Thank you @JBStillFlying. I will call NMSC
@JBStillFlying just wanted to follow up on the great advice you gave me back in May 2018. I pretty much left my son alone, only letting him know of the potential he had, and he signed himself up for a retake of the SAT and you were right, he did do better on it. He made NMF and also became a Finalist in some other competitions, was offered a full ride to U of A, admitted to TU and OU, and also to NC State. He just got admitted to ND! so thank you for putting that out there about recharging, retaking the test and maybe trying for an elite school. He did apply to some other schools which we will hear back from over the next few weeks. Little brother is watching all of this… The competition at our house is going to be pretty stiff! LOL!!
@bigmamao - My DS is a first year at ND. I cannot say enough great things about it! Congratulations! Welcome Home.
Thank you @usma87 ! We are very excited for him, and looking forward to the campus visit in a few weeks.
I have been selected as NMF, and most of the universities have asked to be selected as first choice by May 1st deadline. My question is that by what date I should make my selection change in NMSC site to list first choice.
I also heard that NMSC sends the roaster in batches, if thats the case, does anyone know what dates are roasters published to various universities.
Just trying to determine how the first choice is communicated to universities.
And worst part is, some of the univ are not giving scholarship numbers unless I select them as first choice and NMSC send them roaster. And I am little scared to select them, since I may run out of time to make the change if I don’t like their financial award amount.
@tpcraigs they send out rosters roughly five times: something like, March 1st, March 15th, April 5th, May 2nd, June 3rd.
You are definitely running out of time.
Whatever your first choice is already got notified (unless you are undecided). You can switch now to a new one and they will see you on the April roster. The May 1 might be too late for some places. I don’t remember which one NM uses to send out official college scholarship offers, but once you get that offer, you can’t switch and get a different one.
If you want the definitive word, though, call NMSC. They are incredibly helpful.
