Class of 2019 National Merit Worry Thread

Waiting in Kansas with 221.

Heard from a friend whose son was NMF last year at our HS and it sounds like the school waits till about the announcement day to notify the student and family. So we will probably hear first from CC or Art’s blog.

@momof2il why would you wait until Oct? Announcements are made September 13th.

No paper released it in our area and the school said they didn’t have the info. Most areas release only their region, not the entire list. We looked everywhere for confirmation. We had hear-say from these sites and homeschoolers but not official confirmation for her specifically.

^ “Last time we went through this the envelope was sitting on someone’s desk for weeks and we had to hunt it down.” - pretty much explains why. Once in a while some dum dum at school won’t do their part even if NMSC has confirmed SF to the student. Fortunately, they are very patient and won’t hold it against the student if the school is late or oblivious.

The big hold up would be essay prompt but someone usually posts that before too long. It hasn’t changed in years.

@TXRunningMom, I don’t know about A&M, But TTU’s NMF full ride does not follow the student to TTUHSC…Such a shame. Now if your D is predental that is just a regular BS degree in whatever with the dental school prereqs. That would not require classes at a Health Sciences Center.

@BingeWatcher , thanks for the information about TTU. That is a bummer! I was hopeful that TAMU would carry over because the tuition page on the dental school is just a link back to TAMU. I’m actually inquiring on this for my son who will graduate high school in 2021. He has plenty of time to change his mind plus he who knows if he will make NMF at this point so it may not matter anyway in a couple of years!

@TXRunningMom, gotcha. I have D21…we (single mom and her) NEED NMF and pretty close to a full ride for her to go to college.

Has anyone heard about scores that have made the cut in WA? As of right now I haven’t seen anything about WA scores posted, but with a 222 I’m getting anxious and would really like to know if anyone in the state has heard anything.

@MzBev87 @sherryerne @GeauxBU @homerdog I’m waiting for IL too! Any news? I tested in Cook Country but have since moved. Since I won’t be getting a physical letter, I’ve been anxiusly googling, and I was so relieved to find this thread!

Pls let me know if anybody finds out the score! I saw a site predicting 216 would be the cutoff, does that sound right?

@Class2023GetsLit the cutoff for IL will be 222 or 221.

221 is the reported cutoff for Illinois on another website/blog

I have a feeling CO will be posted last…

nope UT :((

@RW1 There is a post on Art’s blog from someone from UT who says they qualified with 215…

@RW1 found this random reply and not even sure Art saw this.

I can’t actually find where to post a new comment but I’m from Utah and qualified with a 215- if I can help put anyone’s mind at rest who’s letter got lost for 3 days like mine that would be great

@RW1 - so see, CO will be last!

@mountainmomof3 MN is still in the running . . .

If that UT post is true then that’s another -1 state over the previous year.

@mountainmomof3 it looks like a 221 made it in the Centennial State!
